Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com reports that Matt Capps will earn a $3.5 million base salary in his one-year contract with the Nationals.

He could take home another $425,000 based on games finished. According to Capps' agent, his client chose the Nationals over the Cubs and the Mets, who proposed a last-minute bid similar to Washington's, but the 26-year-old right-hander picked the best situation to re-establish his value. He's now the prohibitive favorite for saves in Washington.

They always seemed determined, the problem is they still don't have the appeal to bring in big named players, and they don't have the business savy to run the team like the Marlins do. They, like the Orioles, are stuck being that team that constantly tries at the big name players only to fall short to the big name markets.

 

Sometimes, you just have to feel bad for the Nationals. They try and try, but in the end they are still the worst team in this division at least.
