Florida Marlins Old Alternate Home Pinstripe jersey

Featured Replies

I just purchased the Marlins Alternate Pinstripe, the one with the shoulder logo on the front left chest. Can anyone remember the last time these were used. There have been two manufactures of these jersey, from 2003 to 2005, Russell Authentic made the jersey until Majestic took over in 2005. Were these jersey used anytime between 2005 untill now. I dont recall seeing them in 2009 and according to the MLB game worn jerseys guide, the last time these were photographed in use was 2007, even though they are still available to wear by the team, once again according to the guide. I have also heard they have been used since the MLB switched to Majestic jersey. I know to some its not a big deal, but i would like to be historically accurate and would like to know if the Marlins even wore this Majestic Jersey.

Thanks

2007? That can't be right. I'm something like 97% positive we haven't used those since 2004 (maybe a couple times in 2005, but I'm not sure). I'm something like 99.9999% positive we didn't use those in 2007.

AH! Thats my fault i didnt proof read. Let me rephrase something. The author of the guide states they do not show up in 2008 or 2009 news photo searches, he prefaces this by saying they are still on the official catalog as uniforms that the Marlins could wear. Eariler in the guide he states that through information he received directly from Majestic, the Marlins team ordered Cool-Base version of this jersey in 2009. I highly doubt we will see it again since the focus is on the F logo.

So thats my fault for not proofreading what i type. What were some of the overall thoughts on this jersey from a fan standpoint?

Never liked them, thought it smacked of copying the Yankees and Cubs. I thought they just looked…off, and redundant for having the F on the hat, chest and sleeve. I’m fairly certain they wore them a little in 05, because I have a Carlos Delgado baseball card in that uniform (though of course, it could have been photoshopped, esp if it was Topps).

I just checked the Getty through 2005 and never saw them. If you saw it on a 2005 card, it was probably a picture from 04 unless the set was released late in 05. If anyone can find out for sure, let me know or else its going to drive me crazy.

It wasn't on the sleeve.

This was definitely in use from 2003-2005 and that's it... I was actually a big fan of this jersey, the Marlins almost exclusively used it on Sunday home games, and I actually liked the simplistic, traditional old school Yankee/Cubs vibe that it had

That's actually exactly why I didn't like them. They felt too much like the Yanks' or Cubs' jerseys.

Point taken... that Yankee/Cub thing is probably everyone's reason whether for it or against it...

Pics? Just this one of Niner...

I never liked that jersey. It has nothing to do with the Yankees or the Cubs. It has more to do with the fact that I adored the original 1993-2002 home uniform and the sleeveless home alternates (both teal and black undershirts).

The "Marlins" script looks awesome in my opinion and the cap logo is merely "okay." Naturally I would prefer a uniform featuring the former and not the latter.

My point in saying this was that I strongly disliked the Sunday alternate and was ecstatic when it was phased out. I'm fairly certain it vanished after the 2004 season, but I don't have any documentation to support this.

Silver, Do you have any pictures of the jersey in use in 2005?

There might be a few in there.

If he checked through the Getty archives and didn't see it during 2005, then they probably didn't wear it. Getty is awesome. You can find an image of virtually any player who has worn a Marlins uniform in there dating back to 1993. If you ever have a couple of hours to kill, I suggest browsing through it. There is some amazing stuff in there.

The problem is that they are very strict with copyrighted material. All of their images are watermarked and you are forbidden to post even those. You can only get the original images if you purchase them and that isn't cheap and easy to do.

I don't know where you save the AP photos from, but I think it's wise to be stockpiling them like you are before news sites stop hosting them.

I kinda liked that jersey as a Sunday alt. Anyway it's the alternate that was "dropped" this offseason I believe. I doubt they even had any made since 2004, but it was an "official" Marlins jersey from '03-'09.

Well like I said according to information from Majestic, the Marlins ordered the Alt in Cool base in 2009. Whether they ever received them or not is different, we know they didn't wer them and considering the heavy focus on the F logo, I seriously doubt we would ever see them again. Thanks for the help everyone.

I'm all for uniform variations and alternates, but I do have to say that particular jersey was one of the most bland this franchise has ever worn.

Wow, that's the first thing in a while you and I have agreed on, Rabb!

Come on, we agree sometimes. You're still one of my favorite guys on here, regardless.

This is as good a time as any to say bring back the sleeveless jersey!

Mmmm... black sleeves, teal script AND pinstripes. Best Marlins uniform ever IMO. I'm praying for that to be a throwback alt in 2012(15th anniversary of 1997.. who knows?), similar to what Milwaukee does. Then, like Milwaukee, when half of the fans buy that instead of the current gear maybe it will spur the team to wear the right Marlins uniforms. I can dream lol.

They did wear those jersey's one game in 07 for the 10th anniversary, but the vest was slightly different, closer to the rockies vest (top of the vest tapered out instead of in if that makes sense).
