November 14, 200322 yr but I don't think the Orioles will because they can still play Gibbons in LF or DH him. If they want a very productive 1B, they'll give him up. the O's are probably thinking along the lines of Hairston and some pitching prospects...
November 14, 200322 yr As for the Lee for Gibbons straight up deal, I'd do it if I were the O's. Money is obviously no obstacle for them, plus you get a young, cornerstone for the franchise for 10 years to build around. The O's don't have many of them.
November 15, 200322 yr The Marlins have a below-average set of outfield and pitching prospects and an all-star middle infielder who wants to come back for well below market price. Considering that the Diamondbacks offer doesn't make much sense. The Orioles however have Luis Matos, Melvin Mora, Admin Bigbie, Jack Cust, Jay Gibbons, Tim Raines Jr and maybe even Vladimir Guerrero, David Segui and Marty Cordova in 5-6 starting roles next year. And a few decent hurlers. I can tell you that Gibbons and Mora ain't leaving (they are huge young talents that were acquired cheaply and remain in the O's long-term plans), and they wouldn't like to lose Cust or Matos. But Raines has been shopped in the past, and Bigbie may be up for sale. Both are decent lefthanded bats with a bit of speed, gap power and defensive prowess.
November 15, 200322 yr u calling encarnacion and our OF mediocre? the only OF they got better than us is gibbons. everybody else sucks on their OF and we have better. u should be a used car salesman
November 15, 200322 yr this deal intrigues me... if it goes through, miami will be home to 2/3 of all players with the first name Junior in pro sports. it will also be home to EVERY player named Junior S. in pro sports
November 15, 200322 yr u calling encarnacion and our OF mediocre? the only OF they got better than us is gibbons. everybody else sucks on their OF and we have better. u should be a used car salesman Melvin Mora IS better than Gibbons, Pierre, Enc, Conine and Miggy (not for long.) And Luis Matos could hold his own against any of the Marlins' OFs on most days. I said the Orioles don't want Encarnacion. Not that they wouldn't mind him if there were a place for him. But they have built their marketing base with Gibbons. Mora, Matos, Bigbie and Raines performed so well last year that they don't want to see any of them go without a chance to prove themselves with another year. Segui is coming back. And the club is under enormous pressure by fans and media critics to big a big name to the town. The one most commonly mentioned would play right field. Please remember when discussing trades, it must make sense to both teams.
November 15, 200322 yr It's believed that Baltimore's offer for Derrek Lee includes lefty Matt Riley and either Jerry Hairston Jr. or Brian Roberts. It's unclear if a deal is close. The Marlins could also ask for B.J. Ryan, Denny Bautista or Don Levinski in the deal. They might not be interested in receiving Hairston or Roberts if they believe they can re-sign Luis Castillo. After all, the purpose of trading Lee is to free up money for Castillo, Ivan Rodriguez and Mike Lowell. rotoworld.com ne major league scout said he heard the Orioles included left-handed pitcher Matt Riley in their offer for Florida Marlins first baseman Derrek Lee. That deal could still go down at next month's winter meetings. baltimore sun Can we just freaking sign Castillo already, so we can get onto some real trades please.
November 15, 200322 yr u calling encarnacion and our OF mediocre? Statistically, we have one of the worst OF's in the game. Although, we all know better (no sarcasm included).
November 16, 200322 yr u calling encarnacion and our OF mediocre?? the only OF they got better than us is gibbons.? everybody else sucks on their OF and we have better.? u should be a used car salesman Melvin Mora IS better than Gibbons, Pierre, Enc, Conine and Miggy (not for long.) Mora is better than gibbons??? last yr was a fluke.. he only had like one awesome month then he got injured.. only 344 abs last yr. hes been mediocre every other yr . mora .262 career hitter and in 2002 hit .233 in 567 abs. and that was his best yr other than last yr. how is he better than enc, pierre, conine and miggy and gibbons.. u gotta lay off the pcp. matos hit 13 hrs and 15 sbs with a .300 avg. he had a fluke yr also. hes gonna be like kotsay. ill take pierre, miguel and encarancion over him any day.
November 16, 200322 yr he cant get much better than his 2003 yr.. hes not a power guy so hes not going to improve the hrs. we just saw the best of him. and thats not stellar. its alright.
November 16, 200322 yr because hes not goin to hit better than the .300 he did last yr. hes not going to hit over 20 hrs and hes not going to steal over 20 stolen bases. thas why. what you thought he was a 20-20 man or more or somethin?
November 16, 200322 yr ill give him a chance to see if he can match 2003. the only thing he can do is go down from now. his avg wont stay that high and hes not going to top his HRs. maybe his stolen base by a couple but not much. hes not stellar
November 16, 200322 yr I'm going on the report that the Marlins already floated a 3-year 15 million deal. If 3 years is fine, then why not 4? Especially if its for less money. Because that's an increase of 33% above the original offer, that's why. That's a substantial difference.

Because that's an increase of 33% above the original offer, that's why. That's a substantial difference. it's not like castillo is turning down a 3 year deal so he can get a 4th year for an additional $500,000. lmao.. that's not how negotiations go. if that were really what he were asking, then obviously you jump at it. sucks for us that the levinson's aren't mentally retarded.
November 16, 200322 yr I've seen Mora play about 100 games over the past three years. When he is on he is better than anyone. Last year I remember him coming into a game three times a week and just making plays happen. This year he had a career year and is unlikely to repeat, but if he plays half as well as he did he still would have topped all Marlin and Oriole outfielders' performances in 2003. But then again maybe I'm valuing OBP too much. Also, he got injured twice last season. Missed all of August without missing a bit when he came up the DL in September.
November 16, 200322 yr ok man. lets talk after 04 ramp I think you're talking about matos and pubes is talking about mora. I'm not sure though.
