February 6, 201016 yr Yusmeiro Petit was DFA'd today by the Mariners, along with his career 1.96 HR/9...worst in the history of MLB. Congratulations!
February 6, 201016 yr Lets first ignore that he doesn't qualify for the record for a career rate stat. If you count guys who don't qualify he's behind a tonshit of cup-of-coffee guys who came in once, gave up a HR, and were pulled.

Yeah I think MLBTR said it was a record for guys who pitched over 200 innings.

February 7, 201016 yr Petit could have been a good pitcher if he would have been able to keep the ball down 100 percent of the time. But naturally that isn't the case, and his pitches practically float through the upper part of the strike zone like they're on a tee only with added pop.
February 9, 201016 yr Really got hosed in those Mets deals. Still trying to decide who was worse, though...Petit or Gaby Hernandez?
February 9, 201016 yr Really got hosed in those Mets deals. Still trying to decide who was worse, though...Petit or Gaby Hernandez? Wow, I forgot how horrific that was. Carlos Delgado for Mike Jacobs, Prant Psomas, and Yusmeiro Petit. Sends shudders up and down my spine....

I think I read that the Mets have signed or are going to sign Jacobs on a minor league deal, with a view to platooning him at 1st.

Just remember what can happen with prospects next time folks are clammoring for some AA guy to get a shot because a guy had a bad month in MLB. But if it makes you feel better, Delgado was traded for BY Kim and Leo Nunez
February 11, 201016 yr Really got hosed in those Mets deals. Still trying to decide who was worse, though...Petit or Gaby Hernandez? Wow, I forgot how horrific that was. Carlos Delgado for Mike Jacobs, Prant Psomas, and Yusmeiro Petit. Sends shudders up and down my spine.... While the trade itself was bad, the contract was horrible to the point where it wasn't even that good of a trade for the Mets (though can't really complain since they gave up nothing of value) It's hard to really judge just how he did with the Mets. I mean, he put up a .857 OPS (Basically league average for a 1b) and barely played below average defense. Quite a drop in his expected mid 900 OPS but he wasn't horrible. But he was also marred by inconsistency and more than once his career was labeled "over", and he missed basically all of last season. Just going by Fangraph's $$, all in all he was worth 8.1 WAR in his 4 years, or 33.5 mil. He would make 56 mil, with the Mets paying 49 and us 7. So you could say the mets overpayed him by 15.5 mil. It's hard to really call it a loss on the Mets part though with the resources they have. Meanwhile, Jacobs had a total of a 1.2 WAR over his 3 years, or +4.3 mil, while only making 1.1 mil. However, you then tack on that 7 mil from Delgado, that's now 8.1 mil, so Jacobs was -3.8 mil. If you then look at the other spare parts from the trade, again just going by WAR, petit was -0.2 (-700k), which turned into Julio that was -0.5 (-2.1m), which turned into Kim at +0.1 WAR (+400k), and Jacobs was turned into Nunez who was -0.8 (-3.5m). This is now a total of -9.7 mil on all parts the past 4 years. Of coarse, Delgado would have a monster season for us, being worth 13.9 mil while only making 4 mil. Taking that into account, we'd actually have a net gain of 200k. But overall that was a failure of a contract and the parts it continues to bring in have hampered us.
February 11, 201016 yr I don't know how much it would have cost in 2004/2005, but in hindsight the Marlins should have been talking to Miguel Cabrera instead of Carlos Delgado.
