So you really haven't been anywhere near the suites in Sun Life Stadium. These suites do already exist, except the big difference is that the Dolphins own the rights to them, not the Marlins.

 

And, as el pinguino already pointed out, they couldn't care less if the CEO was actually Yankee or Jets fan, it has nothing to do with any of that.

How about not taking walks and a low OBP last year and for his career? A three year OPS decline while his PA rising showing he isn't a pure starter and is exposed? The relative non-ability to hit RHP with a .736 OPS and painting him as a lefty slugging specialist? How about declining defense statistically in 09 compared to 08? How about he's a corner outfielder even if he dabbles in CF a bit? How about being perfectly priced from 2007-2008 comparables?

 

This became a lot harder with Francouer and Hermida settling on higher than expected numbers, and then Hart winning his arbitration, but there were better arguments for the Marlins to make besides just strikeouts and "something minor." There's a reason we are 1-3 in our last 4 arbitration cases. They do a good job of signing guys as evidenced by getting our 9 arbitration eligible guys signed, but we just blow it when we go to the arbiter. We've lost Cabrera, Uggla, Ross, and won Gregg on a $700-$575k dispute (i.e. a lame middle reliever one).

Cody is a very likeable guy. Putting numbers aside, Ross is probably my favorite Marlin.

 

However, I don't agree with the arbiters' decision for many of the reasons Lou mentions above. It seems that too many people are blindly siding with Cody on this for frivolous reasons or perhaps the classic "labor vs. the boss" mentality.

You do know that you don't need to have a HQ here to buy suites, right? Have you ever been near the club section in Sun Life Stadium (Sun Life not a Florida company, btw). Off the top of my head I've seen Budweiser, Blockbuster, Pepsi, Frito-Lay, Gatorade (yes, I know that last 3 have all been from Pepsi Co, I can't explain why they have 3 boxes but they do). There are many many more that I can't think of right now.

 

Just to add to this, Popeye's restaurant and AFC Enterprises also have a suite.

 

Also, American Airlines, Cisco, Disney, Exxon, FedEx, Microsoft, Oracle, Ryder System, SBC Communications and Sony all have Latin American operation HQs in Miami.

No Rab and Lou we are looking at reality. Perception is part of reality when you screw all the good you have done, by looking cheap just the one time. Because most people, like Mike & Mike have an agenda, and they started making fun of the Marlins in 2006, when they said on their show that the Marlins were a joke because of the $ 24 million payroll. The Marlins have a PR nightmare, and Loria was prodded into spending more money this year, only with a public reprimand from the MLBPA and the other owners.

You can continue your unabashed Loria worship, but many of us are not buying what he is selling, and judging from the crowds the Marlins usually get, neither is the general public. And they are the ones that make the final judgement (by attending or not) whether or not that is fair or not.

 

 

 

Not true. Payroll limits were set long before that news flash. Please try to keep up and not ignore things that don't fit your arguements.

 

It's not Loria worship. It's simply understanding what is going on and not always trying to find a way to bash ownership. Higher payrolls do not guarantee success or better attendance records. Apparently neither do winning seasons. DO NOT ignore our past. The ones that aren't going to the games are part of the problem. Why is that so hard to understand?

 

One guy goes to arbitration and it's a harbringer of things to come. What about the guys that signed? What about the big raises they got? ONE GUY??? And over $250K? Had the Marlins not have the policy of no longer talking after the cutoff date, it more than likely would have been settled at an in between figure. But they stood fast because of what it means down the road. As they should.

 

You said it yourself. "Finally someone here gets it." Maybe it's you two that don't get it. The whole world is wrong and you are right? Kinda doubt that. Maybe you just need to light some more candles at that Mike and Mike shrine.
