So I have not been able to keep track of the team too much while at school. I was just wondering how we look, good or bad. Who is impressing/not impressive. Thanks guys.

You picked a bad day to start this thread. Everybody's talking about the Hanley-Frerdi soap opera. Maybe my post bumping the thread will draw others.

A quick team summary is that the starting pitching has been solid throughout the year with a bad outing here or there but not many. The offense started hot then got into a huge funk and as of these past two series is heating up again. The bullpen has been pretty bad besides Leo Nunez who has been outstanding as out Closer and Clay Hensley who has done great in the Mid Relief and Setup role. Badenhop and Sanches have been pretty good too but not great. Meyer and Veras had terrible starts to the season. Leroux has had some good moments but has been bad. Pinto does well when starting an inning but is terrible when he comes in while inheriting baserunners.

Rotation

Josh Johnson has been out ace giving quality start in every game I believe besides Opening Day.

Ricky Nolasco has been solid and has pitched well enough to give the team a chance to win every game he's started.

Chris Volstad has had his shining moments and is looking more like the composed player he was in his rookie year rather then the homerun pitching machine he was last year.

Anibal Sanchez has been great in my opinion, he's had great composure and has gotten out of many dangerous situations.

Nate Robertson have given a few quality outings and is a pretty good number 5 guy in the rotation, had a great outing vs Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Lineup

Chris Coghlan started slowly hitting under .200 and without and extra base hit in the 1st month of the season but began having better at bats and is heating up with more hard hit balls and he has been getting on base.

Cameron Maybin started cold aswell and looked awful in most of his at bats swinging and missing at fastballs right down the middle and looking ugly while doing it. He's been hot as of late hitting a lot more linedrives and has scored the 2nd most amount of runs with 24.

Hanley Ramirez had a slow April but in the 1st week of May hit 4 Homeruns and had 10 RBI's, his defense has been pretty solid and he's been hitting the ball hard, doesn't have as many RBI's due to lack of 1 and 2 hitters getting on base but does 23 runs scored.

Jorge Cantu started the season as hot as can be driving in runs right and left, he had 25 RBI's in the 1st month but started cooling down and went on a 0-21 slump. Has 32 rbi's on the year.

Dan Uggla has had a great year so far hitting .288 with 10 Home Runs and 26 rbis to go with 29 runs scored.

Cody Ross is riding a strong hot streak raising his average up to .308 with 20 runs scored and rbis. He has also been our best defensive player this year and in my opinion is the team MVP as of right now.

Gaby Sanchez struggled defensively at 1st but picked it up and has been hitting the lights out with a .294 avg and .386 on base percentage earning himself the 2 spot in the lineup.

Baker has been below average production wise but has battled nagging injuries.

Paulino is raking lefties hitting .385 with 2 Homeruns and 10 RBI's vs Southpaws and has been clutch of the bench.

Our bench has been pretty solid with an average over .300 in pinch hit at bats and solid play from Carroll, Helms and Barden.

Overall I give this team a grade of C because they have had quite a few defensive lapse and some offensive struggles to add to the fact that this team could play much better then they have.

A major plus is the 11-5 record vs the rest of the NL East which includes 2-1 against Philadelphia but they haven't played the Braves yet.

My in depth analysis...

^^^ What he said

Nicely done MMP

Yeah, that was some good work, though I'd argue the bullpen hasn't actually been "really bad".

The bullpen has been pretty decent since Jose Veras left. Hopefully he won't be back.

what I was thinking exactly.

I don't wanna jinx it, but Leo Nunez has improved, and Clay Hensley has also been pretty reliable.

About Maybin......Notice how pitchers have been feeding him alot of off speed stuff? 1st AB Tuesday that's all he got and K'd. Then he adjusted. Good to see that.

And I think it is now 9 RBI in the past 4/5 games from Cameron so he is improving step by step

Believe it or not the season is 25% over(+ 4.5 innings).

Uggla is on pace for 44 HR's, Cantu is on pace for 128 RBI's, 4 Marlins or on pace for around 180 hits, and 4 SP's are on pace for 16 wins. What are chances any of these paces hold up? The last one is a long shot.

Uggla will finish with about 35 homers, Cantu max of 110 RBI and only JJ and Nolasco are capable of reaching 16 wins in my opinion.

Uggla hits a career high 39 HR's with 100 RBI's Cantu gets about 110 RBI's.

J.J. gets to 17 wins Ricky 15 Volstad 12 Anibal 12 Robertson with at least 9.

Exactly. That time he spent in AAA last year is paying off, even if he was playing hurt then. He appears to be adjusting to the adjustments and is looking more comfortable at the plate and in the field. I have read that he has been working exceptionally hard on his fielding. Taking extra one on one practices, etc... As he gets more comfortable in both aspects of his game those projected power numbers will come up.

And everyone around here that had him listed as a bust will forget all about those posts. I gotta keep pulling for him to keep up the good work.

Uggla is just amazing power, whichever way you look at it. I know extended his contract to this year (right?), but I wish they would make a big move like they did with JJ and Hanley. And you know what? Uggla seems to really like it here, and is a great team player.
