What the hell is that buzzing noise in the background of the games? It must be 10 times more annoying in person.

Messi is so much better than any defender Nigeria has. Actually, Nigeria is pretty outmatched as a whole thus far.

I think it's those sort of "horns" that I see the people in the stands blowing into. It has to be that, or else a boat load of bees around the stadium lol

Yea they're called vuvuzelas. 1000 curses upon who invented them.

They have to be the most annoying thing in sports history right? Aside from Marlin's cowbells (which i have two of)?

Yea for sure. They were really annoying during the Confederations Cup last year (tournament that works as trainer for the WC) up to the point where you could barely hear the announcers, but it seems ESPN improved their broadcasts. European channels tried to petition FIFA to ban them, but FIFA decided for some reason they're integral parts of African soccer. Whatever.

I don't find them annoying at all really. It just seems like background noise and I can hear the commentators fine. I wish Martin Tyler was broadcasting the England-USA match because he's the best, but he got Argentina-Nigeria instead.

Great performance by the Nigerian goalie, Argentina could have easily won 4-0. Messi was good, just couldn't finish today, maybe a little bit of nerves. I still think Argentina is a better team with Milito in there (but then again I'm biased). Argentina's defense showed some weaknesses, but that's not a surprise, and with that offense it may not affect them, if they start click on all cylinders.

BRING ON USA-ENGLAND!!! Important for us not to make any mental mistakes and we should be fine. I'm hoping for at least a draw.

What the f*** is up with their echoed sound on this transmission so far on ABC? It's not like this on the commercials and it's not like this on any other channel like ESPN. This echoed sh*t is really annoying me.

Sounds fine for me.

I'm on this too. I remember they were driving me up the wall during the Conf Cup but it seems ESPN/ABC fixed their levels for this. I really wish FIFA banned them but I understand why they didn't, most South African's were complaining that they were trying to "Westernize them".

Still, f*** the vuvuzelas.

lol thanks Green, I think I could have stopped that... just saying.

Thanks for the point Green.

BTW, I don't know if anyone else watched it in Spanish (they're feed was like 5 seconds ahead and my dad had it on his TV) but the Spanish announce team love the name Peter Crouch. They said it more than anything all day.

USA is much happier over this tie than England.

Now all USA needs to do is take care of business, beat Slovenia and Algeria.

However, our defensemen need to get their act together. No communcation, seemed out of position a lot, and gave up some open kicks. I understand Onyewu is pretty inexperienced, but he needs to fix some of those inconsistencies in his game right now.

Great result for the US. Howard was excellent. Now we just got to take care of business against lesser teams.... easier said than done.

In all honesty while the U.S. was the underdog in this match it's about time we stop treating them like the Cinderella story. The US would have loved to have won that game, and tieing it could cost them in advancing. The whole US soccer program over the past half decade has really improved and they are definitely making their way up there.

If tying it costs them advancing they need to jump infront of a bus.

England looked absolutely dreadful.

In case people didn't know, the English people/fans/media are very harsh and critical of their team. We want to win at this sport and we've had disappointing teams for the last 44 years. Here's what I take from the match about England:

-- No one knew who the No. 1 goalie was and we still don't. Robert Green made a howling mistake, but David James has been famous for making such mistakes for years. We don't have a Tim Howard and it shows. Big weakness.

-- The defense is weak. Ledley King has this knee condition where he can't fully train and he has to save himself for games. Jamie Carragher showed last season with Liverpool that he is starting to fall behind the pace of the game now that he's 32 I believe. Glen Johnson and Ashley Cole are great attacking fullbacks, but their ability to defend has been questioned.

-- The US took Rooney out of the game. He is England's best player, he is the superstar that can win matches based on his performances. He did nothing today, he always seemed a whisker away from doing something, but he wasn't dangerous at all.

Emile Heskey had a great game, his size and strength really gave the US some troubles. Gerrard worked hard, scored a great goal and had some really great crosses. Johnson really got forward and played well too as well as Shawn Wright-Phillips. Frank Lampard kinda seemed out of the game a bit too, he didn't really get involved enough.

The US team played well and I think a draw was a fair result. The runner up in this group will likely get Germany so both England and USA will want to beat Algeria and Slovenia, but they need to beat them well to secure that top spot and a more likely match with Serbia.

Oh, and just another point... I know no one else around here is really an England fan, but if Gareth Barry is fit enough for the next match... I'd like him back in there in a 4-5-1 formation. The midfield being Lennon on the right, Barry as the defensive/holding midfielder, Lampard the other in the center, Wright-Phillips or even Joe Cole on the left and then Gerrard playing behind Rooney. Gerrard plays awesome when he does that for Torres at Liverpool and Rooney just had no real support today. Heskey had a great game, but that's the way I'd like to see them play. Gerrard is England Captain right now... let him do his thing.

really? You dont think it's at all possible for both teams to win out?

edit: Okay I guess I didnt take into account the utter weakness of the pool... but still anything can happen really. A win today would have almost guaranteed a 1C advance.

England is still a better team. Yeah on a given day we can beat them, but 8 out of 10 times they will win. You take that draw as a positive and beat the teams you are supposed to. The USA is in a great position right now.

Yes, anything can happen, but if we lose to Slovenia or Algeria, noone is going to say "Man, too bad we only tied England", they are going to say "HOLY sh*t, YOU COULDN'T BEAT ALGERIA?!"

And this too.
