Gaby > Nyjer
Plus the 2nd base ump had a pretty clear view if the home ump was restricted by Volstad. Unless he was in "F!#$ YEA!" mode too and ignored it

Gaby > Nyjer
thought it was interesting to hear it from Gaby's perspective: http://www.federalbaseball.com/2010/9/2/1665419/wire-taps-florida-marlins-gaby?ref=yahoo I guess they weren't "pitching him inside" lol. Interesting that they threw at him not because he was stealing to help his team, but because the Marlins thought he was showing them up. By the way, how did Gaby not get ejected? That was one of the best hits I've seen in a brawl in a long time.

Bobby Valentine News and Rumors
Do this already! Enough with the minority garbage. Well, I understand it, but to us, at least from what we know about Bobby basically having a job, we know the minority garbage is BS just to appease the rules. So to us, its a big waste of time. On a related personal note... I got my job the same way. I was hired on the spot without a formal interview, but was the first and the boss told me she has to interview others before sending me to my formal interview. So I watched as a swarm of monkeys walked in and out of her office... then, when I went downtown to my formal interview, the girl at the front who signed me in, pulled up my file from the computer and said "That's funny, we haven't interviewed you yet but the computer is saying you've already been hired, hmm," Of course I shrugged my shoulders and said "Hmm, how strange." ...THIS is Bobby's story... bring him on already! Uh, I hope you ment something else by the term "monkeys" other than what I think you meant. I, too, think it's disingenuous to go through this process when they already have someone in mind; it's insulting to the minority interviewee when they're not getting a fair shake, they're only being interviewed to satisfy a rule. That being said, this rule wouldn't be necessary if minority candidates were actually considered for openings in the first place. I used to think it's a completely useless process. However, there's also the chance that a minority candidate gets a shot at an interview that he wouldn't otherwise have, proceeds to carry himself well, and is put in a good word for the future. He may not be the person for the team he's interviewing for, but word of mouth is a powerful tool as well.

Bobby Valentine News and Rumors
Such weird timing. Hanley's raking again, coming off a win, not like anything in the bullpen has changed. Bobby V was a disaster on the Mets, why him?

Wimbledon
This is CRAZY! A seven hour match that's breaking Tennis record right and left. 7 Hours of craziness. And Isner has match point! It's 59-59, he had a match point when it was 59-58, but Mahat served a couple aces in a row I think. Everything about this match is so surreal. The commentators are really frustrated, and seriously, how long can you possibly find stuff to talk about? There were a lot of players gathering around, watching the game. Isner was barely moving for balls anymore, but somehow hammered them with pinpoint accuracy along the baseline. Mahat, on the other hand, dove for the ball twice a little before they called it off, and was doing little jogs and sprints sometimes between points.

Showalter vs Valentine
Not that I care for Showalter, but when Bobby V was the Mets manager I remember how many crazy decisions he made and the general low opinion of him. What's changed?

Team Has Closed Door Meeting
I know the Marlins won 2 of 3 against the Rays recently, but the Marlins will have a tough time facing Tampa this weekend considering they have the best record in baseball. If the Marlins somehow lose 2 of 3 (or more) to Baltimore, I think Fredi might lose his job. As bad as fredi is sometimes, there is nothing he can do with this bullpen and I would actually feel bad for the position beinfest and hill have put him in, but Bobby v would make me happy And as much as I wanted Fredi to succeed earlier in the season, I think a coaching change could work as a waking call.

6/17 Post Game
God damn it, wtf went wrong now? When I turned the tv off, we were up 3-1. Can we get a damn break already?

How about trading Cameron Maybin?
Being a little naive here, but what is his actual trade value right now? As in, if we were to trade him at this point, what players would we get in return?

World Cup 2010
Yea they're called vuvuzelas. 1000 curses upon who invented them. They have to be the most annoying thing in sports history right? Aside from Marlin's cowbells (which i have two of)? Yea for sure. They were really annoying during the Confederations Cup last year (tournament that works as trainer for the WC) up to the point where you could barely hear the announcers, but it seems ESPN improved their broadcasts. European channels tried to petition FIFA to ban them, but FIFA decided for some reason they're integral parts of African soccer. Whatever.

Messi is so much better than any defender Nigeria has. Actually, Nigeria is pretty outmatched as a whole thus far.

World Cup 2010
The second match was just horrible. My expectations of France are pretty low anyways, but that game was just tough on the eyes. Second and third games tomorrow are pretty good matchups, but it's gonna be tough to wake up to watch Greece SKorea.

Drill, baby, drill?
I wouldn't say solar power is a sinkhole, I just don't think it's feasible to rely on it to supply a major amount of energy. There are a lot of cool ideas in solar power, i thought this video was a cool example (solar powered roadways): I'm actually doing research on a high temperature hydrogen gasifier this summer. Didn't really know a whole lot about Waste-to-energy projects before this, but so far, it's really interesting.

owner will get new manger by allstar game
echoing the previous post, Fredi only has so many levers to pull and going into ST we all knew the bullpen would be a problem... No one would have thought the following Hanley in prolonged FUNk Lolligag Gate Cogz & Maybin slumping this long (Cogs pulled out of nosedive, cameron still sucking wind) Fredi is a good manager and if you replace him the same product will be on the field... so nothing gets solved Really? No one saw that coming? In the interest of completely hanging to the slimmest of hopes that the Miggy trade wasn't for naught, I was hoping it would be just a slump and he'd be able to have a breakout season.

Penguino, I really liked your post on alternative energy analysis. It is amazing how often I hear that the US should switch to solar/wind without considering land area, energy efficiency, technological limitations, and most imporantly, cost. I agree with nuclear energy, it is the best alternative right now, but the cost of a new plant is sky high, and even with highly improved safety, no one wants a plant in their backyard. If there's anything America needs to do less with is money driven bureaucrats who talk out of their ass to anyone who listens. It's going to be interesting to see how close car companies get to the standard of 36 mpg that is being set (I get about 28 from an 09 Corolla), still be able to drive at highway speeds and keep consumer costs low.
