JJ vs. Jimenez for Cy Young

Recommended Posts

If we're just looking at wins, obviously Jimenez has the edge over JJ. But if the season ended today, I feel JJ is more deserving of the Cy Young.

Both have started 17 games and both have almost identical innings pitched.

JJ: 8-3, 1.82 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 83 hits, 23 ER, 4 HR's, 27 BB, 115 K's,

Jimenez: 14-1, 2.27 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 84 hits, 30 ER, 6 HR's, 44 BB, 107 K's,

JJ leads in almost every category. Also, Jimenez has about 0.5 more run support than JJ has had in his starts. It's obviously early, but I feel JJ is definitely more deserving right now.

I'll tell you what, if JJ keeps up this pace and keeps his ERA and WHIP close to what it is now, I don't see why he shouldn't have the best chance. Ubaldo has already begun to show some signs of faltering off his epic start while JJ has been solid most of the season so far.

JJ needs to be going deeper into games before I think he can be considered a front-runner for the Cy Young award. He currently ranks 9th in Innings Pitched in the NL with 114IP. Halladay leads the pack with 139 IP - a disparity of 25 innings.... If he stops handing the game over to the bullpen, his wins and IP will increase.... which are pretty important.

Whatever going by history they will probably give it to Linincecum anyway

Are you implying that Lincecum was somehow undeserving of his two Cy Youngs?

I dont think he should have won it last year he benefitted from the Cardinals splitting votes

He benefited from leading the league in Ks, finishing in the top 5 in HR/9, WHIP, W, IP. H/9, CG, SHO.

Nobody else had as complete a resume as him.

I respect your opinion on this one it's just a matter of taste i guess...He wasnt as clearcut a winner as it was in 2008. I felt that Carpenter was more deserving but that is like preferring chocolate to peanutbutter
