Kosuke Fukodome?

Featured Replies

I was reading through some trade deadline stuff and apparently he is available and the cubs could pay a lot of his salary for both this year and next. He is a high OBP guy who has a little pop.

What would you guys think of him as a lefty off the bench and a flexible guy as far as defense goes.

I love the idea. I've always been a Fukudome fan, and with Soriano, Byrd, and Colvin in the starting lineup, Fukudome only gets the rare start, these days. Would be a nice addition for us.

what would you guys give up for him. Id give cousins and maybe one of those pitchers we have that have good numbers but not electric stuff.

"Part of the $4 mil he's owed this year and some of the $13.5 he is owed next year" still makes him too much.

you quoted that wrong, on purpose i think. it is a lot of his salary next year.

The Cubs would pay part of the $4.95MM remaining on Kosuke Fukudome's contract this year and quite a bit of his $13.5MM salary for 2011

That's pretty much the same thing; either way, that's a lot of money for a bench bat, especially for this organization. I like Fukudome, but the Marlins wouldn't do that.

I'm not sure "quite a bit" means "a lot of". Even if they picked up half of the 13.5 for '11 and half of that 5 mil for this year, that's still 9.7 we'd owe. For a bench bat. Oh, and he's 33.

Unless we get him for ~$2 mil, I'm not interested.

Fukudome is no good. Forget the name and the style points, he is a Japanese Jeremy Hermida. He doesn't hit at all except for one hot streak towards the beginning of the year. He's not worth a roster spot.

Trust me, my dad and most of my friends are Cubs fans, and I've seen Fukudome play many times.

He's had a better career than Hermida, in the big leagues.

I think the OP was thinking along the lines of Fukudome being the lefty off the bench, depending on how much salary the Cubs plan on taking on. How do you disapprove of a ~.370 .OBP left-handed hitter coming off the bench/getting occasional spot starts? That would be a nice upgrade to a team that has a horrible bench, and has 1 worthy left-handed hitter (Coghlan, who's actually had a sophomore slupm this year) on the roster.

Fukudome has never been a bench player, at worst he's been a spot starter. Also, he's just not that cheap, because I doubt the Cubs would pay 15 million to have this guy off their roster for the next two years.

This, there is no doubt he'd be useful if the Cubs paid the majority of his contract and the asking price shouldn't be too high.

I'd take Fukudome over Peterson and Lamb any day off the week.

I'd give them Raynor since he appears destined to never play for the Marlins in the Majors and pitcher like Parcell or one of those hapless chums in Jupiter plus the Cubs would have to eat, I mean really eat a lot of his salary. Then maybe you make this trade.
