8:25am: The Giants are making a strong run for Marlins corner infielder Jorge Cantu, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. They may hold an edge over the Rangers and Rockies, who remain involved. He says the Fish are believed to be seeking a young lefthander. Their are some internal issues which include paying his salary and apparently we asked for a top prospect?

Just get two C+ prospects or a B, take the salary hit and trade the guy already.

So we want a 25 year old reliever who sucked as a starter and has done decent as a reliever in AAA and an A+ reliever. Not much, but at least it's something.

Honestly right now I don't care, we are desperate to trade the guy.

Castillo isn't that bad and he's very young so there's room for improvement.

 

Reed can be useful with his High K rate and has done very well in the minors this year.

 

I'll take that deal!

There are still a couple days till the deadline. These trades are negotiations where we will probably ask for more up front than we expect to get. If there is mutual interest in getting a deal done, the two sides can meet in the middle of their offers.

Yeah, just trade him and thank him for his time as a Marlin. Sucks that he sucks this year, but get something for him. Hollywood video rentals are better than letting him walk.

What do you mean by done? He's been great the past 4 years and just has been in a major slump the past month or two.

He still has a career ahead of him at the age of 28 and don't be surprised if he sparks up again in Texas if he's traded there and does infact platoon with Davis at 1st.

I just don't expect him to be a starting 3rd baseman ever again.
