Hurricane Season: 2010 Edition

Featured Replies

Since we are in a high activity of storms at the moment, as according to the NHC, I figured it'd be a good time to get discussin' about this.

1 major hurricane, another hurricane, a tropical depression, and a system currently under review off of the coast of Africa are all being recorded at this time. Earl is busy roaring across the coast of the Carolina's right now, as Fiona heads to Bermuda. But down here in Florida, I'd say it's best to keep our eye on Mr. Gaston.

Gaston is expected to form into a hurricane over the coming days, and is in a prime location to be striking Florida if you get my opinion (which doesnt mean much, just basing it off of watching these hurricane tracks).

So yeah, lets get discussin.

I hate hurricanes! I mean hate hate them! Let's hope none hit FL (or anywhere else for that matter...just go off and die in the ocean hurricanes..thanks). We had some good luck the past few years, let's keep it that way. I do not want to ever go through Hurricane Wilma again! Having no electric for a week was horrible and I mean I could live without tv, computer, even lights..but no a/c for a week is murder

No hot water either...hell, barely any water at all lol

Lol I was in the same boat as you, Halloween of 05 was a miracle day for us.

hehe yeah I remember. Our electric came on on halloween also. We thought "hey with the entire neighborhood blacked out..you think there wouldn't be any trick-or-treaters.." yet they still came around heh and then the electric went back on. Some things you just take for granted in life

Heh It was the freakiest thing..we had no electric, our telephones didn't work, our cell phones couldn't get reception, and yeah we didn't have water for about a day I think. The water was the first thing that started working again though. And with no electric, cold showers were better anyway heh but yeah it was just crazy and I hope I never have to go through that again

So it looks like the remnants of Gaston are just hangin out there... I've been checking NOAA NHC for the past few days. Still hasnt reformed, which is a good sign, but it's also had a high probability for a long time.

The probability has been getting higher and higher. Right now Gaston looks like it may swing under or through Cuba and go in the gulf.

I remember 05 as having A LOT OF ACTIVITY. I believe we were "grounded" over Labor Day weekend because of a hurricane. I had to drive to Orlando to pick up a close friend because he couldn't get a flight to Ft Lauderdale or Miami. So I drove through a hurricane :confused I didn't realize it until I found out where it came on land. What did I know because I had lived some of my life in Michigan.

I remember the next couple years when I went to Daytona Beach that some of the hotels/condos were still damaged on the beach. It looked like a bombing with windows gone and drapes/blinds swinging in the breeze. Some of the properties still have not been rebuilt.

 You drove through a hurricane? :o Wow, you're a good friend!

Good news on the Gaston leftovers, it's now been degraded to a 50% chance of development (down from 80%) as according to the NHC. The NHC notes that however, it's a system still capable of creating Tropical Storm force winds and heavy storms.

TD #16 Could turn into Tropical Storm Nicole which means no school for me

If no school for you means no electric for me then boooooooo!

It shouldn't unless you have sh*tty electrical service...

Sigh. I guess I'm driving to school in the rain tomorrow. Class is in the afternoon, so I'll probably get soaked because I don't have an umbrella.

Whatever... Rainy days make me happy, so that makes up for it I guess.

Buy an umbrella.

Exactly. Our electric went out today, and it was sunny out at that point. The electric sucks here!

Speaking of rain.. this Orlando place is full of it.

And love bugs too. Everywhere. And there was a floating aligator in the lake too (though we have those back south). And a deer ran in front of the bus, and almost died.

Orlando is seemingly overran by wildlife.

Which lake? Are you talking about the Lake Claire Gator?

And yeah, f*** these love bugs.

Lol nah not Lake Claire, Lake Jesup up towards Sanford. I'm doing Junior Achievement and I'm teaching 3rd graders so we've gotta go off campus.

Ah ok. Makes more sense. I've been in this area for almost 5 years and still haven't seen the Lake Claire Gator :(
