June 15, 201115 yr What does demoting Coghlan do? He's still better than all the scrubs on the bench. And better than Bonifacio once his current little hot streak ends, as well. He's not that good, nothing has changed. Right now he kinda sucks, but it's not as if there's anyone in the organization who's an upgrade over him. I agree there isn't, but people panic and want unrealistic answers from AAA. We really don't have many options besides the fact and yea i wouldn't want anyone taking his place, as for what we have right now.

Well it sends a message. Although I was never one for sending him down. Just benching him. Let one of those scrubs start in his spot if he's not batting. Lets be honest though... it's the pitching that's the problem right now. Not Chris Coghlan. Lets not try and make a scapegoat out of him. Vazquez is pitching +6.00 ERA baseball. Volstad is pitching +6.00 ERA baseball. Nolasco is pitching + 6.00 ERA baseball. The bullpen is mediocre at best at the moment... The bullpen has been fine actually. Even in this long ass stretch of turrible, I believe the bullpen ERA is under 3. Nolasco doesn't have a 6 ERA, but I guess I understand what you mean; he's trending downward, right now. The offense is a problem too, but there's probably a better chance that the offense breaks out of their slump (specifically with .RISP) than Volstad/Vazquez break out of their constant mediocrity.
June 15, 201115 yr Cmon Erick. Do you really give me that little of credibility? In Ricky Nolasco's last 4 starts he is 0-2 with an 8.02 ERA and a 2.16 WHIP. Read what I wrote again.

Well, during this current streak he has been horrible. You are correct. It's just that when you mentioned Volstad, Vazquez, and Nolasco having ERA's over 6, I assumed you were talking about the entire year. Why? Well, the Killer V(agina)'s actually have an ERA over 6...for the entire year.
June 15, 201115 yr Ah well, Volstad's 6.00 ERA was a direct result of this game so I didn't even think about that. Speaking of which though, Javier Vazquez is above 7.00 on the season. Phenomenal.

Of this game, and those other games where he really sucked early in the year. You don't get a 6 ERA without some effort.

Send him down and replace him with a crappy bench player. Maybe he'll regain some sort of composure in the Minor Leagues. This season is a mess, so we might as well try all we can to make next season one that actually entices people to show up to the new ballpark.

Coghlan has struggled but I would keep playing him every day because we need to determine whether he'll be a cog in 2012 and going forward or if he is what he has being the past year and a half.

Yea, but don't you think sending him down to a less stressful atmosphere to work on his swing would help him? I don't see him magically getting out of this unless he works on it intensively, and I don't think being part of this team and sharing its collective woes will allow him to do that.

He'll always be a "cog"! I think it's better for him to work out his issues in the big leagues. I don't see him getting emotionally "broken." He needs to figure out ML pitching, not AAA pitching; I just hope Perez can work something out. @Ent: the "stress" argument seems kind of shallow to me, but I obviously could be completely wrong.
