June 14, 201115 yr Who do you think Loria fires next? If Mallee got fired because the hitters were sucking, where does that put Randy St. Claire?
June 14, 201115 yr Who do you think Loria fires next? If Mallee got fired because the hitters were sucking, where does that put Randy St. Claire? Release Helms. Send down Cogs. Bring up Petersen. Just win! Ugh!!!!
June 14, 201115 yr I'll be pissed if Edwin goes... He hasn't been given a lot to work with He has one year deal, Loria should let him finish year out. Then decide. JJ and Hanley out...and Hanley ain't hitting that well.
June 14, 201115 yr I don't think that anyone will/should get fired. However, I'd like to see them do something bold like send Coghlan down.
June 14, 201115 yr Coghlan's been pissing me off. Wes Helms pisses everyone off. Nobody should be fired, though. This is a direct result of the players' poor play.
June 14, 201115 yr If pitching keeps struggling, I see St. Clair going but isn't he a friend of loria from the early days?
June 14, 201115 yr No one else should. However, the team is getting pounded lately... Its been difficult to watch, when your down 4-0 OR when Vazquez/Volstad pitch, I gotta be honest I've switched to other programming. If you are going to lose keep it competitive. Huge Road Trip! They could easily win only a few games on this...
June 14, 201115 yr wouldn't be opposed to the idea but it's not as if we have good replacements ready to fill in.
June 14, 201115 yr wouldn't be opposed to the idea but it's not as if we have good replacements ready to fill in. Well I'd be fine with Bonifacio starting in center since Hanley is back tonight. Petersen could be called up to replace Cogs on the bench.
June 14, 201115 yr I know all the major media was thinking that Loria wanted a big name manager for the new stadium but if it came down to Edwin being gone, who would br the big name replacement.? Foe the record, I'm not wanting edwin's dismissal .
June 14, 201115 yr I agree that Coghlan needs to be sent down for a bit. Also agreed. The couple of things that stick out in my mind about Coghlan is how he doesn't seem to be hitting into the LF-CF gap anymore. That could be partly due to them pitching him more inside and I know he sometimes can chase a high pitch, but he seems to be rolling over on the ball and grounding out a lot to 1B and 2B. Look at this double play mishit in the 7th inning of Monday night's game... even though it went right back to the pitcher, it was the same kind of bad grounding out hit that is happening a lot. I don't think back to 2009 Coghlan, but I think back to 2010 when he was really coming out of his slump. I remember he went 4-5 or something in Tampa with 3 doubles or something. They were all those LF-CF gaps variety and that is when he's been at his best. Maybe I've just missed the times he's hit them this season, but it seems to be more down the line when he does go to LF and then everything else is pulled.

Petersen could be called up to replace Cogs on the bench. yeah I guess that would work. Boni has at least shown some improvment this season. I'd like to see Coghlan be a little more selective. His BB/K rate is worse than Buck for christ sakes. Actually that says as much about Buck as Cogs this season.... but still, having both your 1-2 hitters allergic to walks.... probably not ideal.
June 14, 201115 yr I doubt anyone gets fired for at least a week. I like the thought of sending Cogs down to a degree. As much as it pains me to say the Marlins were playing better with Boni in the line-up on a regular basis. If anything can be done to shake up the team out of this funk. Hopefully Hanley is the catalyst for the turnaround.
June 15, 201115 yr Sorry folks there is no Miguel Cabrera waiting in the wings. The front office only has themselves to blame with poor drafting, poor player acquisition, poor depth, poor pitching, and poor scouting.

June 15, 201115 yr Yes, the product on the field is the direct result of the front office's moves. But they will fire everyone else to deflect blame. I no longer have any confidence that this front office knows what the hell its doing.
June 15, 201115 yr Demote Coghlan, release Helms, promote Dominguez. At the very least. I guess bring up an outfielder as well.
June 15, 201115 yr What does demoting Coghlan do? He's still better than all the scrubs on the bench. And better than Bonifacio once his current little hot streak ends, as well.

Well it sends a message. Although I was never one for sending him down. Just benching him. Let one of those scrubs start in his spot if he's not batting. Lets be honest though... it's the pitching that's the problem right now. Not Chris Coghlan. Lets not try and make a scapegoat out of him. Vazquez is pitching +6.00 ERA baseball. Volstad is pitching +6.00 ERA baseball. Nolasco is pitching + 6.00 ERA baseball. The bullpen is mediocre at best at the moment...
