I'd take Mike Jacobs over Brett Hayes at 1st base.

Raining on that parade...what if Hayes reads this? Maybe it enrages him and he goes all Cody Ross and has 10 straight home runs in mostly pinch hit at bats.

Hey man, it's just being realistic. Hayes isn't known for a bat. Or even for some power. So far he's been great from a backup position. Things change drastically once you become an everyday starter though. Add that to the fact that you want to play him out of his position... you're asking for trouble. Hayes can play 1st base. That doesn't necessarily mean he's a 1st baseman. I can play 1st base too. I'd imagine a lot of catchers probably can.

lol, I can't play 1st Base for the Marlins cause at 5'5 Helms or Dobbs would overthrow me. Something like this...

*Helms throws a nice ball towards 1st...but too high for the 5 foot 5 inch 1st baseman*

Rich: Bless him for jumping....

Tommy:...but he just proved white men can't jump.

Helms: Oh, I was throwing at where a normal man would be standing at...

^LOL.

Tonight has firmly cemented in my mind the fact that Volstad SUCKS...Don't give me that his last few starts were quality and that makes him decent bullsh*t... If this team is serious about winning next year, I wouldnt even give Volstad the #5 spot next year...Get rid of that crap. As much as I like Gaby, I wouldn't cry if he was traded: Not only are we dealing with players that do not even have 2 years of MLB experience, but we are playing them for lack of better terminology "not in their regular positions...i.e. LoMo and Cogz" ... so the FO beleives that: A) Inexperienced kids can carry the offense all year without good veterans with them B) They can just stick players anywhere out on the field C) Bench and overall roster depth is not needed or important.... Next year's opening day roster is gonna really tell how serious they are

Disagree with you about Volstad. Regarding Sanchez, I can see him being traded because of Christian Yelich. If he develops well enough, then Sanchez can be a very good trading piece.

Why? I think tonight was a good example of how bad he is

I know he's not very good, but no number 5 pitcher is. There are others far worse. What we really need to do is push Nolasco back as our number 4 and acquire a more consistent lefty like Wandy Rodriguez to be our number 3. Or, what we should have done if we were competing.

Guys, the Marlisn are so gonna sweep the DH. It's simple...Philly will be up all night partying cause they just beat the AAA team, but Marlins will show them.:shifty

That would be nice. Since the Phillies raised the bar on what a rotation is this year, I'd love to see this next year: JJ, Anibal, Lefty, #4 FA, Nolasco. I know it's completely unrealistic, but I could live with Ricky as the no. 5 because of his Jeckyl/Hyde (Cy Young one day/AAA pitcher the next) persona if we had some people that were as good as Anibal or more like Ricky with more consistency.

One thing I will add. I watched what I could of this game while at work ( a bar full of a**hole Philly fans) and I saw too much overswinging for the fences... They need to just worry about making contact instead of trying to crush the ball and striking out

I'm not going to lie. I didn't realize Volstad had the second worst ERA in baseball.

It's pathetic how we're halfway through the month and not more than 1 win so far. I'm tired of marking losses on my Marlins print-out schedule calendar (lol). Let's win one ALREADY!! :banghead
