Did Lee's glove anchor our defense?

Featured Replies

I am worried that w/o DLee our gold glove infielders will suffer. DLee was obviously the most important infield in terms of fielding, and I think our legendary defense will suffer.

Any thoughts?

I agree with that yet the other blind ppl here in these forums seem to dismiss that and say it was a good move..no it wasnt our defense will struggle and lee saved agon at least 10 or more would be errors!

shut up sheff...

you arent even a fan of this team...

the move had to be made and the fact that we got a replacement at the cost of $300k is great

I agree he was the anchor but it's all about popularity. Here's the a question for all those that question the move...

LOWELL OR LEE????

I think Lowell better work on that throw to 1st on Spring. Lee saved Lowell's arse many many times. I would say 1 out of 4.

Not worry about 2nd (if we keep Castillo) or SS. . .

How many time did we see D Lee doing the split while catching a ball from Lowell?

Someone had to go and im glad its Lee over Lowell, Castillo.

Oh if only more people could get that fact through their little minds.

Lee did anchor this defense, but defense is not worth 7 million alone especially for a small market team.

Secondly Pudge is more important to this team because he also plays awesome defense and handled this young pitching staff very well.

I guess people forget how Lee is mister anti-clutch just because he got one important hit in the nlcs.

(sigh)

Have people forgotten the fact that Choi is just as good of a defender as Lee? I know Lee is great, but so is Choi!

True that. Even during his offensive struggles last year, Choi had a very good glove at 1B.

a fan does not give up on his team.

I defenintly agree that Lee had to go. It wasn't going to work with this payroll. It is agreed that Lowell should be kept instead of Lee.

But will Lee's absence cause a struggle to the infield? I sure hope not!

Hmm, 300k GG caliber defender or a 7 mil GG caliber defender?

Sad to see DLee go, but oh well. Choi has an outstanding glove at first base, and you'll forgot about DLee soon enough.

Does anyone else remember the simple little fact that this might improve defense? Left Handed First Basemen with good gloves are a luxury each team wishes they could afford. Left Handers are better suited to play first base, and by alot as well.

We won't forget about Lee. He'll hit 40 hrs next year and be in the playoffs.

Plus Chicago is a media town. That is why we forgot about P-Diddy even though he hit 140 rbi. Coors Field + Middle of Colorado= no attention

all 5'5 of you?

unless you have a glock, you got no chance.... the way you type, its like you belong in a garbage dump(good comeback i know)

no need to argue with soon to be HS dropouts

Umm...some may be blind, but not everyone who thinks this is a good deal is blind. I consider this a good deal. Fact, we were going to lose Lee. Fact, he was a luxury for this team financially. Fact, D Lee was a gold glove winner and did save a lot of errors on this team. But because of the other reasons, this deal had to be made. The fact that we got Choi out of this deal - and didnt stand to get a prospect of that caliber AT ALL, this is a damn good deal.

For one thing, there has never been, and probably never will be any such thing as a defensive first baseman. Lee did an excellent job defensively and put up some decent numbers. He was more than adequate as a 6 hole hitter. But he isn't a 4 hitter, and that's the kind of money he's getting now. The Cubs are going to be disappointed when they try to protect Sammy with DLee.

The difference between DLee and another quality major leauge 1st baseman isn't going to be significant. Choi will make plays, Conine will make plays. Cabrera, if called upon to play 1st, will make plays.

DLee became too expensive to keep around. I wish him well in Chicago, and I look forward to him matching up against our pitching, behind Sammy.
