October 16, 201114 yr BTW I feel Alex Arias was better than Amezaga, he was just as good with the glove and better with the bat
October 16, 201114 yr I hadn't commented on the Pudge vs CJ discussion as of yet. I am a huge CJ fan maybe no one appreciates the thrill of having watched CJ behind the plate more than myself however I agree with the selection of Pudge...Regardless of the fact that Pudge is a first ballot HOFer but in the brief time wearing a Marlins Uniform he displayed his greatness in every moment that elevated the team to achieve greatness as well. He is the greatest catcher ever in Marlins history, he played at the highest level and that trumps the longevity aspect because nobody can deny for the time he wore teal he was a true Marlin not just a short term rental as others in the past
October 16, 201114 yr I don't see how Amezaga was "overhyped." CF was a huge problem for the organization at the time. The Marlins were giving PAs to guys like Eric Reed and Reggie Abercrombie. Those guys got more of a chance than they deserved (especially Abercrombie). Amezaga stepped in and put up decent enough numbers. I think people are giving him credit for fulfilling his role; nobody is really making him out to be anything more than that. If people seem to "love" him, a lot of that probably has to do with his character.
October 16, 201114 yr Oh, and it always baffles me when posters here maintain these little pet biases against certain players. The posters are always intransigent in their refusal to acknowledge anything positive about a player. That's always bothered me. It seems so silly and immature.
October 16, 201114 yr Pengui most people understand that my hatred towards Amezaga is mostly toungue in cheek but what I really hate was that ERA in which the Marlins could not Field a ML calibre CF and I hated Amezaga's name in the lineup at CF when he was really a fielding no-hit SS/2nd baseman...He did an ok job I guess, but the position was still a huge hole. I blamed Fredi who just fell in love with the guy there were many moved that were never made just because Fredi liked Amezaga on a personal level
October 16, 201114 yr What I hated about Amezaga was that his defense was overrated. I'd watch back to back Marlins games live (from the upper deck too, so I had a good field-wide view), and I'd see Amezaga making the highlight reel catch when the other guys playing CF (Abercrombie) were able to catch the ball without having to dive for it because their natural outfield instincts got them there a lot quicker.

October 17, 201114 yr If your "hatred" were tongue and cheek, you wouldn't be so stubborn in refusing to admit that he was a superb bench player for this team.
October 18, 201114 yr What I will never agree to is that he was a good CF and lead-off hitter... I'll grant him the good utilty player and ok pinch-hitter as a Marlin
