My only concern is the hip

That's just stupid.

It wasn't a concern and didn't hold back his offensive or defensive production the FIRST year coming off surgery. Why the hell would it effect him two years afterward? That makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever. Chill out dude,

Does he have the same speed? No

Can he re-injure his hip? Yes

Does he have the same speed? No

Can he re-injure his hip? Yes

Did he do it less than 6 months coming off of surgery? No.

What is the likelyhood of him aggrivating his hip 1 year and 6 months after?

what?

we could get to the WS without luis!

No, we couldn't. luis is just 1 player

and he was struggling during the playoffs a little

how much could 1 person add to a team to make them go to the playoffs?

we werent so desperate

we could have done it without him

he didnt even perform the best

maybe you can say that without Pudge we wouldnt have got to the playoffs

or cabs or urbina...but castillo?

i'm so happy we got JP-bc we didnt get alot of speed from castillo and a lot of SB-JP was great-but why couldnt we have got to the WS without castillo?

What is the likelyhood of him aggrivating his hip 1 year and 6 months after? not only that but he played 152 games without problems. That hip was definetly tested. I still don't believe that he's lost that much speed, because his infield hit numbers didn't go down at all.

That makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever. I am starting to like you less and less with each post. What the hell do you mean that doesnt make sense - it makes perfect sense to be worried about Castillo's hip. BECAUSE WITHOUT IT HE CANT RUN! Ever hear of Albert Belle? Probably not, the way you fake your baseball knowledge. But Belle at least had power to compensate, and could play DH in the AL. What is Castillo without his speed? An overpaid slap hitter.

And what the hell does IMO stand for !!! :banghead

his infield hit numbers didnt go down but his stolen bases number went down-and that means more-bc hes just a good bunter and he places the ball in the perfect spot so that he could get there in time-but with the stolen bases...he just wasnt fast enough...

I'm not even too worried about the hip...just the aging process itself. And any injury to Luis ruins a large part of his game as we can see from his horrible base stealing numbers in 2003. What do you mean he wasn't affected?

Gold Glove defense

Along with Pierre provided the most feared top of the lineup in the league.

Did the little things to help us win.

had just as many runs scored as Pierre.

Made the run producers in our lineup better.

well, it is a 3 year deal, with an option for a 4th if he reaches incentives...

imo, its money well spent

EXACTLY my point. :thumbup :w00t

IMO its also a good deal-a young good second basement-a great player...

for just that amount of money is great!

you search for results-and castillo will give you RESULTS.

not only that but he played 152 games without problems. That hip was definetly tested. I still don't believe that he's lost that much speed, because his infield hit numbers didn't go down at all.

Exactly.

He was just as fast coming out of the batters box this year than he was in '02. He just ran with much more caution for his hip.

I think he needed to gain the confidence that he could play on it, and it looked as if he did that from September on.

He was absolutely fine in 2003. Hell, the man arguably (sp) had a career year COMING OFF HIP SURGERY.

What are the odds he just starts hurting now, after he's had more time to heal?

Again, makes no sense.

Highest batting average of any starter.

Also lead the team in the all-important OBP at .381.

You know, Castillo has improved in every category except SBs...

That said, I am still concerned with his hip. But if the FO has faith, I do too. I am sure they know better than us what is the deal. I just think we may be overpaying for Luis...but who knows.

Even if he only steals 20-30 a year, he's worth it.

Hell, for what he gives us at the plate, he could have 10 SB's and earn his keep.

BUT, I have a feeling he'll have a much more successful season on the basepaths in 2004.

higest batting average-well sometimes its better to get less hits-if your hits are at the right time.

gold glove defense-well he didnt win a gold glove so...

along with JP-bc they are both fast up the line-and JP stole bases unlike castillo-so dont give luis ALL the credit

did the little things...-everyone on our team did the little things! how do you think we won the WS?

had just as many...-well he batted before Pudge-of course hes gonna score alot

made the run producers...-and so did JP!

Since nobody can explain Castillo's absolutely awful base stealing woes in 2003 I'm still wary of signing him longer then 3 yrs. I agree he's a very valuable player, but I hope we don't overpay.

If you're implying Castillo isn't clutch, than check the numbers buddy.

Pudge only had, what, 86 RBI?

Puh-leaze.

Pudge in the playoffs stepped it up alot!

thats what a BIG TIME player does.

Again, makes no sense. You have yet to clarify what doesnt make any sense.

As you can see, I never said dont re-sign him because he is coming off a career year.

I never said that he doesnt deserve the money he is getting offered.

What I did say is I AM CONCERNED ABOUT HIS HIP AND GIVING HIM $6M FOR THE NEXT 3-4 YEARS. We could just as easily find someone to replace him, may not be as good offensively, but cheaper and we could pool that money towards someone else. Tell me, what doesnt make sense...

And if he ran with more caution, as you speculate, doesnt that mean the hip is not fully healed? Again, how does being concerned over his hip not make any sense...
