Marlins Upgrade Castillo Offer

Featured Replies

higest batting average-well sometimes its better to get less hits-if your hits are at the right time.

what are you trying to say?

gold glove defense-well he didnt win a gold glove so...

:banghead

along with JP-bc they are both fast up the line-and JP stole bases unlike castillo-so dont give luis ALL the credit

That's why I said along with JP

did the little things...-everyone on our team did the little things! how do you think we won the WS?

The ideal #2 hitter is a guy that does all the little things and he does that.

had just as many...-well he batted before Pudge-of course hes gonna score alot

that's pretty much the idea he gets on and the run producers bring them in so he did his job.

made the run producers...-and so did JP!

I really believe Castillo batting behind Pierre makes Pierre even more dangerous.

You have yet to clarify what doesnt make any sense.

As you can see, I never said dont re-sign him because he is coming off a career year.

I never said that he doesnt deserve the money he is getting offered.

What I did say is I AM CONCERNED ABOUT HIS HIP AND GIVING HIM $6M FOR THE NEXT 3-4 YEARS. We could just as easily find someone to replace him, may not be as good offensively, but cheaper and we could pool that money towards someone else. Tell me, what doesnt make sense...

And if he ran with more caution, as you speculate, doesnt that mean the hip is not fully healed? Again, how does being concerned over his hip not make any sense...

What doesn't make sense to me is how you're questioning the mans health, even though he had the surgery a year ago and is coming off a career year. THAT doesn't make sense.

And like I said, he seemed to turn it up a notch on the basepaths from September on.

I'm not even too worried about the hip...just the aging process itself. And any injury to Luis ruins a large part of his game as we can see from his horrible base stealing numbers in 2003. What do you mean he wasn't affected?

I think part of it is he's just not a very good base stealer. If you look at the numbers even when he was leading the league in steals his sb% wasn't all that stellar. With Pierre though, now we don't need him to steal a lot of bases. Did the hip effect his speed, yeah probably, but not tremendously and that is proved with his infield hit #'s.

higest batting average- ok so he had the highest batting average...it matters more when your hits come in the clutch-it dosent really matter so much if he gets hits with 2 out and no runners on-but getting hits with runners in scoring position is much better-so even if he gets alot of hits-they might not mean as much as another guys fewer hits bc they were when it counted even more.

dude.

you're joking right?

First of all I don't know where you're getting Luis is not clutch from. Also, his job is not to get the big RBI. His job is to get on and score runs, and he definetly did that last year.

Luis Castillo, IMO, is more of a reason for our world championship than Ivan Rodriguez.

Castillos job is not to get the big hit 99.9 percent of the time

it's to GET ON BASE, to start something.

along with JP...-give JP MOST of the credit.

how can you say that? when Castillo had a better OBP, and same amount of runs scored. Stolen Bases don't always lead to runs. You've also got to factor in that some of JP's runs came as a result of Castillo moving him into scoring position.

NO

we paid Pudge 10 mill-bc we knew that he was going to be a big part o our team-Pudge helped us more than castillo.

it's to GET ON BASE, to start something. Exactly.

And Luis Castillo does that BETTER than ANYONE in baseball that fits his job description in a batting order.

.314 .avg

.381 OBP

Those are two great numbers.

Well if you use the stats Castillo's career year was in 2000 with every year after that showing him in decline, although 2003 was his 2nd best year it still wasn't even close to 2000.

2000: 62 steals, .334avg, 78BB, and a career high OPS, OBP, SLG.

please check your facts. and I cant find the numbers right now because espn is gaying up, but im willing to bet his SB% in September was just as bad as it was all season long. It finally came up...in September he had 3 SB and 2 CS...wow. :plain

NO

We paid $10 Million for Pudge to sit behind the plate, look pretty for the camera, and SELL TICKETS.

OBP-well castillo didnt play as much as pierre

stolen bases lead to runs-sometimes-which would be near the amount of times JP scored bc of luis moving him up.

and I cant find the numbers right now because espn is gaying up

I know, it's been doing it for a few days now and it's pissing me off.

Theres nothing better than 2 sure hitters, bunters, and speed demons at the top of your lineup. Best 1-2 punch in the Big Leagues. And Luis has been developing more power at the right side. Not to mention both GG caliber.

And jonny, its crazy to think that We'd be better off with another 2nd baseman other than Castillo because of his "hip"

OBP-well castillo didnt play as much as pierre

Pierre scored 100 times.

Castillo 99.

You're officially an idiot and a half.

what are you thinking?

we knew that getting pudge would sell more tics but when we got Pudge the first thing i said was that we were going to be a good team! we got pudge so we could compete!

Why do we care about runs scored? Too much of that depends on the player behind you getting a hit. Lets focus on the players ability to DIRECTLY get on base.

Oh shut up.

You know that the FO and ownership didn't think this team would do s*** this year.

without Pudge we wouldn't have made past the Division series. . .
