December 4, 200322 yr With both Baltimore and Chicago looking for lower cost alternatives, it looks like the Marlins offer is the best thing going for Pudge. Boras had better get his head out of the clouds, and get this deal signed by Sunday. 3 years at $24M is my guess. Baltimore Sun
December 4, 200322 yr 3 years 21 mil sounds good though I'd like the third year to be a vesting option.
December 5, 200322 yr i think u can get javy for.. 6 mill 2004 7 mill 2005 9 mill 2006 and if he suks in 2005 or 2006 u can always trade him. somebody will get him
December 5, 200322 yr There is apparently a 2 year deal @$14M total here, averaging out to $7M per. The third year is optional at this point, but it seems the Marlins will use that to sweeten the deal if anything - they seem hesitant to commit to Pudge longer than 2 but will do a third year if it gets him in here. I think beyond 7M a year, the Marlins wont do it. And Pudge has no other options -right now. Working in our favor is the Dec. 7th deadline, because if we had to go the whole offseason, we may lose him. This situation also benefits the market as it sets the value on Lopez's possible deal. Once again, the Marlins are saving baseball...
December 5, 200322 yr yep, that appears to be the case. today's Sentinel reported the 3rd year apparently wasn't offered, contrary to the what one of the papers reported yesterday. 2 yrs, 14 mill is the only offer. The two-year deal on the table is for $7 million each of the next two seasons, a source familiar with the bid said. Internally, the Marlins considered including a third year club option, but instead submitted a proposal with a maximum value of $14 million. ...... An industry source said that while the Marlins would miss Rodriguez defensively, they're not so sure a Ramon Castro-Mike Redmond platoon wouldn't produce similar home run and RBI numbers. Playing full time, Castro alone might hit 16 homers and drive in 85. But a Castro-Redmond tandem likely wouldn't produce a top-five league batting average with runners in scoring position like Rodriguez did (.375). They are certainly not backing down on their stance and are clearly willing to go with Castro next year if Pudge wants to hunt for more money.
December 5, 200322 yr Numbers offered to Pudge have been all over the place in the last 3-5 days. I think a deal will get done, unless the Cubs jump in the sweepstakes and offer 1 or 2 million/per above the Marlin's offer. this is just funny, but I had a dream last night where I was Pudge friends and he told me that he had an offer from CC (I asked him - Colorado? Cinci?), he didn't clarify. I think CC = Chicago Cubs. He was trying to use his computer to scan and fax some papers regarding a potential contract, and I helped him since he was not computer savy. At least on my dream! WTF is wrong with me? :confused
