December 4, 200322 yr Could it be this kid? It seems that Rodriguez won't be signing anytime soon. Agent Henry Vilar said he thought the Mets, Yankees, Rangers, Mariners, Marlins, Cubs and Red Sox were most intrigued by the a 24-year-old right-hander who has been clocked at 100 mph. The Mets and Yankees have already confirmed to Vilar that they will attend the workout. Source New York Daily News :mischief2
December 5, 200322 yr Thanks Ramp? yea, i have ESP :lol Iv'e got ESPN, ESPN2, ES{N Classic and ESPNews.
December 5, 200322 yr The Yankees will most likely sign him. I know we are looking to improve our bullpen from article that came out today so he can be a possibility. This kid is young and throws that hard? Our Scouts need to go to the workout!

This kid is young and throws that hard? Our Scouts need to go to the workout! He wants to start and we will prbably sign him for 3 or so million so the clippers look like a good team...he can hang out with Adrian Hernandez... We don't need the island of Cuba!!! Guys he had a 3.11 era in cuba, I wouldn't want him. He's probably like farnsworth with less control.
December 5, 200322 yr farnsworth is awesome dood oh and isnt he old like 26? he could be faking his age
December 5, 200322 yr farnsworth is awesome dood oh and isnt he old like 26? he could be faking his age no he's not, and he's nasty. believe me, we want him, we really do. i just don't think we have the money to get him.
December 5, 200322 yr guys if he had a 3.11 era and a 100 mph fastball, he must have almost no control. Furthermore, what will a 3.11 era cuba translate to in america? 5? I would pass on that. :thumbdown

December 5, 200322 yr Why would we even entertain acquiring Maels when, according to the Herald, he's looking for a four year $8 million a year deal. That would be more than we'll pay Beckett, Burnett and Penny COMBINED in 2004! It's nice to fantasize but people have to keep in mind our payroll of $60 million (INCLUDING $11 million in deferrals to Hampton and Pudge) simply will not accomodate anything approaching that number, not to mention he has zero, nada, zilch MLB experience and is totally untested against MLB hitting. If we can't afford to re-sign Uggie and maybe Loop, who in their right mind could consider risking financial ruin by signing this guy?
December 5, 200322 yr nobody will pay him 8 mills a year, that would be totally stupid. contreras was paid that money, but he was ready to jump into the big show. he's 31 years old and has a ton of experience. maels is 24 and in many ways is still a prospect. he will contribute inmediately, but it won't be as much as contreras can contribute, therefore he's not worth 8 a year.

With Steinbrainfarts crazy to get everyone he can... he'll get him for $8 mil.
December 5, 200322 yr If he wants to be a starter it will be very tough to do it as a Yankee. The Yankee rotation is Stacked with Experienced players. He doesnt fit into there pitching But he does fit into ours.... :mischief

He's definitely not worth any more than a 2 million dollar gamble, forget 8. He's pretty much unproven, and his recent performance indicates he's not major league ready. :w00t Me ignorant???

It was his back, then that is ignorance on my part. However, a 3.11 era in a foreign league is nothing to be proud about. I think of it this way. You have a minor league arm in AA, and he strikes out a a ton of people, but has some control problems. In the minors, he usually has had about a 2 era, a little more or a little less. However, his contract is expiring, and he just came off a season with a lot of Ks, but a 3.11 era. Are you willing to give this guy millions, or even hundreds upon hundreds of thousands? No.
