Jim Leyland won't return as manager of the Detroit Tigers next season, a decision the team will announce in a Monday morning news conference, according to multiple reports.

Leyland was managing the Tigers under a one-year contract extension he signed a year ago, after Detroit was swept by the San Francisco Giants in the World Series.Leyland, 68, told the team he was stepping down after the Tigers' Game 6 loss to the Boston Red Sox in the AL Championship Series, Fox Sports reported.

Leyland managed 2012 on a one-year deal as well.

That's because he wants to come back and lead our team to the World Series again. He's the final piece.

Probably just tired. Dude is old.

He's apparently only 68. But doesn't look a day over 85.

/stole that joke from deadspin, fight me.

No manager in Marlins has ever lost more games in a season than Leyland!!! Of course 1998 really wasn't his fault.

I still remember him from managing in the FSL with Lakeland Tigers in the 70's

He will spend his retirement on his porch smoking a carton of cigarettes each day.

Probably just tired. Dude is old.

Good point. 108 losses in 1998... Jim Leyland = Worst Manager in Marlins history.

Right?
