June 27, 201412 yr This is exactly what I think too. I don't think that this team should be into trading top prospects because I don't see it making the playoffs. With that said, selling at this point seems dumb as well because there is a young core in place that can compete in the near future. Had Jose Fernandez stayed healthy, I would've said buyer. I think you buy at a reasonable price, to show the players in the dugout your trying to help them out a bit. Getting Bullpen Help and maybe a 2B/SS should improve this team quite a bit. If we can move Baker it might help a bit too. A change of scenery type player could be worth it. I don't want to see the farm blown up, but I don't want us to stay put. Maybe we can pry a high priced vet away from a struggling team in exchange for gobbling up payroll. (Assuming these are truly baseball decisions Jennings is allowed to make)

It ended up being Josh Johnsons first ever start. I wouldn't mind trading for Burnett though--- but I think Cliff Lee might be a better trade if we are willing to eat his salary. Or Papelbon.
