June 23, 201412 yr Unless the Marlins want to trade away Marisnick, I don't think they have very much of value to offer in a trade to get someone really good. David Price would probably require Heaney and it would make no sense for the Marlins to do that.

June 23, 201412 yr I think this team is decent enough to be contenders this year. It's not like anybody with running away with the NL East anyway. That being said, it would be dumb to trade away key pieces on this team for a guy like Hammel Samardja or some of the other starting pitchers on the market. I think there's a way for us to be both buyers and sellers at the deadline. Add a starting pitcher who won't cost us an arm and a leg, but also putting guys like Cishek and Jones on the market and seeing what teams are willing to give up for them. Doesn't hurt to see even if it is unlikely we trade either one. I'm not comfortable saying Buy or Sell right now. I still really need to wait until mid July (aka the All Star Break) to see where this team stands. We're on a slide right now and have lost to some really bad teams. You really can't be buyers when you're under .500, but if this team can make a run and get somewhere like 5 to 7 games over .500 by the Break, THEN it is alright to start thinking about buying big.

This team has just been far too mediocre of a team to be able to call them buyers, but the division itself has been too rubbish and nobody has really pulled away enough to qualify us as sellers. Need to see how the first half of July plays out before we start throwing pieces away for "playoff pieces". Unfortunately, this FO scares me sometimes...I would rather be in a more certain position. Last time the FO was in this "we are almost there...but not quite" they did a half measure...buying but buying crap. Don't want that to happen again.

Any time a team has a shot at making the playoffs and doesn't take it, I get sick to my stomach. In 2008 and 2009 the Fish had a shot both years and Loria did basically nothing. He didn't sell, because how could he justify it while his team was in contention? But he didn't make a serious attempt to buy either, adding a nobody like Nick Johnson in 2009. The Fish finished in 2nd place in the East that year and were like 12 games over .500. Had they really tried to make some buys that year, they had a chance to make the playoffs. That's what teams are supposed to do. If they have a shot at winning this year, they need to take it. It's not about next year, not unless you're already several games under .500 and out of it. I can't believe any Marlins fan saying they should be sellers if the team is playing over .500 baseball and is in contention. Maybe the guy who said "Sometimes I think people here actually enjoy the Marlins selling at the deadline and saying they will wait for the future" is right.

June 24, 201412 yr Yeah...don't really get trading McGahee unless we are selling (if we are selling, he's the first one I'd be shopping). Obviously if something ridiculous comes up then yes, pull the trigger, but that's pretty much the case with anybody. I'd trade Stanton away if the Angels were willing to give up Trout. But unless we find a team that severely overvalues RBI's and Clutch hitting, I highly doubt we would get any suitors (cause...you know...we are that team).

If I rooted for a normal team, I would be screaming buy buy buy all night till the cows came home. But I root for the Marlins, and I REALLY don't trust our FO to make a good trade decision. A "Dietrich for Infante" type deal scares me, and I can't say with full confidence that this FO wouldn't try to pull off a trade like that. So yeah, if we are on the tipping point, I would say stay the course, don't buy or sell. Honestly think now that we have gotten rid of a lot of dead weight that this team is already a much improved team, and I think over the next few weeks the record will show that. Having Turner, Wolf, Furcal, Solano and Hech all in the rotation/lineup has been a real pain.
