June 24, 201412 yr I don't really see who the Marlins would have to sell if they wanted to sell other than McGehee or Cishek. They aren't going to trade Stanton mid-season. McGehee might actually make sense to hold onto rather than trade because he's still under control for next season and the Marlins don't really have any other viable 3B options until Moran is ready (and he's a long way away from that). The FA options for 3B are also pretty terrible. McGehee is on pace for a 3 WAR type season. I don't see the Marlins matching that production from someone else at third over the next couple of seasons unless they make a trade.

However, it doesn't mean he couldn't be included as a throw-away in some trade of some sort. Teams are always ready to give chances to these type of players thinking they can coach him up if not they will just release him without any grief whatsoever of any kind. Who knows maybe with another organization he does actually break out. Wouldn't be the first time it ever happened

We get one, who actually is getting paid less then the batboy, just to go right away and trade him (based on that he can't repeat his first half of the season?) who are you putting at 3rd base then...Dietrich or Lucas? June 24, 201412 yr If the team is over .500 and within a few games of a playoff spot, they damn well should be buyers. Any time a team has a shot at making the playoffs and doesn't take it, I get sick to my stomach. In 2008 and 2009 the Fish had a shot both years and Loria did basically nothing. He didn't sell, because how could he justify it while his team was in contention? But he didn't make a serious attempt to buy either, adding a nobody like Nick Johnson in 2009. The Fish finished in 2nd place in the East that year and were like 12 games over .500. Had they really tried to make some buys that year, they had a chance to make the playoffs. That's what teams are supposed to do. If they have a shot at winning this year, they need to take it. It's not about next year, not unless you're already several games under .500 and out of it. I can't believe any Marlins fan saying they should be sellers if the team is playing over .500 baseball and is in contention. Maybe the guy who said "Sometimes I think people here actually enjoy the Marlins selling at the deadline and saying they will wait for the future" is right. They do enjoy it, which is why they are fake Marlins fans. These people don't seem to understand focusing on the "future" is a vague concept that guarantees nothing. If you're in contention you go for it. The future is neither a lock nor a guarantee. The present is and you have to take your opportunities when they come such as a weak division in the instant case. Who knows what can happen when you reach the playoffs but you don't know until you go. However, trading McGehee would be a mistake with absolutely nobody except Mark Canha or Zack Cox being able to replace him. Jones, on the other hand, could probably provide some teams value. Remember, he has also played a considerable amount of RF.

An AL team would be better for him cause he could DH. You are correct, getting rid of Casey would be a bad idea. I really think we should hold on to him until next year's trade deadline. Gives Moran another year to develop and hopefully become something decent.

But no Jose for rest of year...so what could the team trade away for Starting pitching? I feel bad I haven't been watching most of the games....but I look at Gameday and sometimes use mlb.tv still. When I can.

I don't think that this team should be into trading top prospects because I don't see it making the playoffs. With that said, selling at this point seems dumb as well because there is a young core in place that can compete in the near future. Had Jose Fernandez stayed healthy, I would've said buyer.

June 24, 201412 yr what? no. it's the deadline for teams to stop treading water and make a move. Sometimes treading water is the best idea. This team isn't too far off, but they're likely a 0.500 team. Trade away the tradeable stuff and it gets way, way worse. Trade away the prospects and it certainly gets worse (we are talking Heaney here).
