No he won't. If he wasn't a 1st round pick you wouldn't be saying that. He has been fairly mediocre for any draft pick let alone a 1st rounder. He hasn't had any power and its past the point where he is just adjusting to a wood bat. He hasn't put up an OPS of even .800 in either year and according to scouts he was pretty awful at 3b and is a future 1b. He will not have a positive war and if he does it wont be much more than that.

That's a really pessimistic scouting report, honestly. I don't think Moran will be more than an average major leaguer, but he is not an "awful 3B and future 1B" and not everybody comes around right away with the bat, even first round picks. FWIW, he also has an OPS over .800 in Double-A since the trade. Not to mention he is going to a ballpark in Houston that will help him be more successful offensively.

He will obviously improve but his main skill coming into the draft was his incredible way to get on base and the hope was that power will improve as he gets older. It's been ONE YEAR of professional baseball, you act like it's been four and he's been a total disaster. His power was supposed to improve but it wasn't supposed to be this low already. barely over .400 Slugging in his career thus far and that is over 200 AB's in great hitting parks where he is not and Greensboro last year.

But you can't ignore his projection as if it's a non-factor. A 14th round pick comes with no expectations, and a first rounder does. That's the reality of this situation, so if a 14th rounder with those numbers was traded of course I wouldn't mind, he would never never been expected to amount to much anyway.

Ok I can understand that opinion, we just disagree. I just don't think he has any real projectable tools that can make him a capable major league starter.

That doesnt mean you can strike out that bad against that same tigers team again. We got nothing out of a deal where we traded a top of the rotation arm and a quality second baseman, no matter if they were free agents.

Gave them away in the sense that we didn't get anything of value. Obviously we didn't give them away but we have had too many trades involving good assets where we get nothing in return.
