DaGreatOne
Since there are a lot of Vlad believer out there and I am still not a Vlad believer, I see it more practical to sign Tejada over Vlad. Mostly because hes less money and he would be an upgrade in the SS position. But of course Vlad is better than Tejada but it just seems more realistic even though there hasnt been any contact made between the two teams that we know of. I mean I love Gonzalez Gold Glove Defense but not his bat. Why dont we trade Gonzalez and sign Tejada. Looks like hes market isnt really high on him and we might be able to get him for about 8-9 mil a year. Big improvement in the power numbers over Gonzalez and it would be really only about 6-7 million because Gonzo will make about 2.5 millio next year anyways. Just a thought
FutureGM
The Mariners have offered him a contract, and the A's offered him salary arbitration. We'd lose a draft pick if we signed him.

Guest Juanky
Vlad is more worth it, chances are higher for him, plus we don't lost a pick.
Shamrock
Tejeda is overrated...why sign a player for a position we already have covered?
geemoney
Tejeda is overrated...why sign a player for a position we already have covered? Exactly....save the money to spend on a position we NEED help....like the 'pen.
DaGreatOne
Well we have right field covered already too with Cabs. Plus Juanky Vlad is a lot more money than Tejada.
Shamrock
If we had traded Lowell and moved Cabs to third...plenty of money for Vlad + we trade Lowell at his absolute highest value. Just a thought. Talk about wasting talent in the OF.

Just a thought. Talk about wasting talent in the OF. HELL NO!!! Why would you trade a player that you have just signed to contract extension. Lowell is the man. He actually wants to be here in florida, He is not just for the money. He also did not complain when he was healthy and not playing(unlike most players today). Plus he had 32 Hr and 102 Rbi this season in only 130 games. His power numbers have also increased the last 3 years and is only making 8 million year. (Pudge wants 10 and he did not even have half the year that he had) Lowell is unselfish and will do anything to win. I would not trade him for anything!! All emotion aside we have a HoF 3B in the making wasting in the OF. Now having 2 awesome 3B on the same roster is a luxury I don't think we should mess with. Some may disagree from an emotional standpoint (dont get me wrong i love lowell) but baseball/business wise this would have made the most sense. TarHeel324
dumping guys just to have a shot at others is too risky lowell actually wants to be here, and showing guys were loyal goes a long way to bringing free agents here plus, vlad is an uncertainty. hes naver had pressure on his shoulders and tejada? please. he had pressure in 03-look what happened
CyggyMarlin
I'm happy with Lowell and Cabs in the line-up. no matter where they play on the field

Shamrock
Some of you have no concept of comparing numbers to position played. Compare his numbers this year to other corner OFs and then compare his numbers to other 3B. His highest value is at 3B. I'm not saying it was dumb to re-up Lowell, but resources for a cash strapped team could have been spent more wisely with an able, CHEAP replacement at 3B. SorianoFanHFW
Tejada stinks. He's horrible defensively, he'll be overpaid, and he's just not good. He's like soriano at SS, without the SBs, HRs, doubles, batting average, or .338 obp. He's closer to jose valentin, and who likes him? ops SB Soriano .863 35 Tejada .807 10 Valentin .776 8 Difference between soriano and tejada? -.056 Difference between valentin and tejada? +.031 He's closer to Valentin! He's really not that good. For shits and giggles: Rod ops: .995 Garciaparra ops : .870 Jeter ops: .844 Tejada isn't an elite SS. He's a jose valentin, he was his whole career, with a .791 career ops. Valentin is a .775. If you take him (Tejada), you guarentee that the yanks and marlins won't have a rematch!!! :thumbup

There's more to someone than how they perform. I mean, you are one cold-hearted businessman. Lowell has taken this team on his back. He has been here for awhile, and is Mr. Marlin. I mean, so you could put Cabs at 3rd, trade Lowell, and possibly get Vlad. Yah, we might score a few more runs, but Lowell is a Marlin through and through. P.S. Does Lowell have a no-trade clause? I see your point sorianofan but if he can get back to his MVP numbers then he wouldnt really be a jose valentin. Plus hes better than Alex Gonzalez with the bat by a mile. Some of you guys would much sooner build a team out of a bunch of leaders and role players. Theres always going to be new "Mr. Marlins" and new guys will step it up. (beckett, cabrera) Like I said I love Lowell, but as the motto goes, "sell high, buy low." Just one man's opinion.
g8trz2003
yah....sell high, buy low....if its a stock. But this is a real live person with a family. I mean, I know Beinfest can't look at every player and be like, "oh man, this guy has a family who is living here...we'll keep him." But this guy has made it a point to play baseball in South Florida, and you would wanna crap on him by trading him? I mean, sometimes I think you could keep a good player because he means a lot to the team, the town, and the fans....no need to go Billy Beane.
