The Cardinals lost their ace and their 1b pretty much for the year and are the best team in baseball and have done this multiple times in the past 10 years. Hell they lost Pujols for nothing and were back and better the next year. We have Yelich start off slow and go on the DL and we go straight to the tank. Our front office is terrible and it is clear if you go through our draft picks in the minors we are either really terrible at scouting or we go really easy for signability and draft guys who are already old for the level that they are at and don't have much of a chance at the majors. Just go through our drafts and you see way to many college guys who have extremely low ceilings just so we can fill up our affiliates. Obviously we are cheap as shit but I think MLB really needs to make the draft have a set contract for each pick in each round to make the draft process much fairer to smaller teams. The yankees can get a great top prospect picking from the end of the first round every year because they get guys who other teams were afraid of what kind of signing bonus they want. On top of them already having more resources than other teams they have access to many more prospects because of their excess of resources that the marlins simply don't have. If they want to sign more international prospects, that sucks as a Marlins fan but there is nothing baseball can do about that, there are way too many political ramifications to make international prospects available in the draft. But they can fix what teams are doing within the draft right now. If you're not gonna have a salary cap you need to make it at least a competition for small market teams to get guys in the draft. Far too many draft prospects as of now control their destiny by asking for huge bonuses that only certain teams can/will pay.
