January 25, 20168 yr from what i was told many moons ago, unless you have a CPA, you wont have any good high paying job in the industry. now if your goal isnt to be an accountant, its not as big of an issue, though it appears this is your end goal. I'm sure you could apprentice before then, but it wont really do much good until you get your CPA. My school offered (many years ago) a 5 year program that ended with you sitting for your CPA. not sure if your program does the same.

If you go into public accounting, you just need to be CPA eligible or on your way to becoming CPA eligible. Hell, they'll pay for your review course. Public accounting is a factory for young accountants. You'll get all the skills you need to work in private, and you'll most definitely leapfrog the people who began their careers in public. The hours suck and the work is sometimes horrible, but I've been told it's well worth it in the end. I, for example, have been traveling almost every week since early December, working 9-12 hours a day. It sucks if you have a family, but the longer you tough it out the better your exit options will be.
January 30, 20168 yr What's wrong? Just a bit bored of the audit work although remember that I'm in Scotland so your experience could vary a lot in the US.
