I think they will be okay. We might pick someone up right before Opening Day, who knows.

I mean there's Ramos and then a bunch of garbage who BB everyone from what I can tell

Barraclough, Ellington, and whoever is forced out of the rotation will be solid.

They're 2 guyss with pretty big control problems throughout their major/minor careers. Thinking they magically stop walking people is pretty unrealistic.

LOL. you're right, they were very solid in a massive sample size of 49 major league innings between them. Without a doubt they repeat that ERA over a full season with that bb rate since they've already done it in 25 innings each. My bad.

GALLOWAY: BOMB BABY

Holy shit, now you're rating babies? Poor Isaac probably has no idea what goes on on the internet regarding his family.

Sabermetrics are useful for painting part of the picture, but if you become too fixated on them, they lose their value.  Seeing how a pitcher reacts to situations and works out of jams is every bit as important.  A pitcher who is effective is one who stops other teams from accomplishing their goal.  I believe that those two guys will be very good at that.

I'm talking about their bb rates ie whip which is barely even touches sabremetrics. Both have good stuff (esp bearclaw) but when you continually walk that many it will catch up with you(see mike dunn last year). Considering you love ST stats so much I'm surprised you still like them since they've both been pretty bad

Yeah, I would imagine he has a good shot, and with him, we have an opportunity to have a slightly‐above‐average bullpen matched to a very good starting rotation and a great lineup.

Average bullpen, Decent Starting Pitching, and Good Lineup*

Yeah, wrong, but it is so much sexier to be pessimistic.

What is the basis for your point?

Mine is a sustained track record of losing and injury, improvement from the two teams we are in direct competition with, and the fact we only met these challenges with 1 significant addition in Chen.

If Jose and Stanton can stay on the field....which Stanton really has  not even shown is possible this Spring...I think we could be better...

I think reality is sexy. Smarmy comments on the other hand are really ugly. (I hope you get that by me calling your comment smarmy I am also being...oh nevermind...)

Oh, no...the culture of losing argument.  I based my argument on proven success.  What do past injuries or the other teams in the division have to do with the quality of our player personnel?  I never claimed that we were bona fide World Series contenders.  I only made the point that we have very few notable weaknesses heading into this year.

Dee Gordon is arguably the best leadoff hitter and defensive 2B in baseball.  JT Realmuto is one the best catchers in baseball, Adeiny Hechavarria is one of the best shortstops in baseball, Martin Prado is one of the most solid and consistent 3B in baseball, Justin Bour is one of the best power‐hitting 1B in baseball, Giancarlo Stanton is arguably the best player in baseball, Marcell Ozuna has a huge amount of potential, and could be one of the best CF in baseball, Christian Yelich is one of the best LF in baseball, Jose Fernandez is one of the best pitchers in baseball.  All of the other quality players I would mention would probably be points of contention, but it simply does not matter.  The Marlins have very few holes and are in a position to contend.

Every single time I make a comment that expresses optimism about the team, someone jumps on it.  I guess only critical or negative comments can be seen as thoughtful and intelligent.

I'll give you Dee Gordon (with a small Jose Altuve caveat), but you're saying you wouldn't trade 1-to-1 any of our starters for any of these guys:

Catcher: Buster Posey, Kyle Schwarber, Travis d'Arnaud, Stephen Vogt

First Base: Goldy, Rizzo, Cabrera, Encarnacion, Abreu, Votto, Davis, Gonzalez, Freeman, Hosmer, Belt, Santana

Shortstop: Correa, Tulo, Bogaerts, Seager, Lindor

Third Base: Donaldson, Machado, Arenado, Bryant, Frasier, Carpenter, Seager, Beltre, Rendon, Longoria, Sano, Moustakas, Duffy, Turner, Lawrie, Castellanos

LF/CF: Trout, Harper, McCutch, Pollock, Betts, Bautista, Springer, Jones, Cespedes, CarGo, Cain, Heyward, Puig, Polanco

Hey bud I wasn't trying to jump on you or hurt your feelings. I just think that you might be setting yourself up for disappointment....for me I am admittedly a curmudgeon so I sometimes see the world like Jon Arbuckle. I am sorry about that. But just be careful how high you raise this team...they owe you...you owe them nothing.

I have been watching since I was a kid (born in the 80s...so I still remember the 90s) and paying for the package every year since a little after I moved to nj...so 06? So ten years of buying in...

This culture of losing thing is real...and yes it is annoying...but that isn't what I am judging this team on...I am talking about real sustained losing. I know you look at Bour and see Bryant...or hell Pat Burrell...but that might be your fan goggles.

In English, there is this concept that we as learners have to decode better...there is so much information thrown at students that without a proper Language Arts background they are left to the whim of every tweet. Hence why you get a long lessons about themes and quirky teachers explaining that when a an author repeats something 30 times he usually doing it for a reason - like a billboard saying, "hey this is important."

I know that Marlins front office says, "lets make baseball great again" but I suggest you let them prove they know how to do that first.
