How many ER? Also does this count against his spring record since it was against a single A team?

its possible he used this outing to try some new things out. Not sure if we need to be that concerned.

ER pretty irrelevant really. Point is one of his biggest problems in his career, control, is rearing it's ugly head about 9 days before opening day

ahh good to know. Yeah his change is terrible (why I always refer to him as a 2 pitch pitcher)

Yea that's what I was inquiring about as well. He was using this game to try something new. Apparently we won't be seeing the change much. He is a 2 pitch pitcher at this point. Unless he changed the way he throws the fastball as reported earlier and now the old fastball is more of cutter with the new one more of a 4 seamer

it's impossible to be a succesful SP with 2 pitches so hopefully he figured out something with that change lol. He needs to be throwing more than 3 a game...

He can modify his two pitches though. Like smoltz used to do with his slider. He threw about three different types of sliders so technically his slider was more than just one pitch. A guy like cosart can do different things with his fastball if he learns how with some good coaching. He can have a hard sinking fastball, a cut fastball etc. but I do agree 2 pitches is not enough to be a good major league starter.

agree 100% and that's why his fastball has been so bad despite the velocity..it's the same FB everytime

Sounds like it's July already!

Cosart says he was working on things that he didn't wanna work on facing major leaguers. He said he threw some fastballs the first inning and then was working on his other pitches in groups. He says he was throwing four or five changeups in a row, and then four or five breaking balls in a row and so on to work on each pitch. Nieves is making it sound like the day was a good day for whatever they were trying to do.

Take it as you will but that's what they're saying.

Someone's taking tips from Brad Hand.

Trying to entice me with a new found hatred for cosart by trying to compare him to hand. Well, hehe....it's working.

Come on guys, Cosart was working on stuff. I think we can ignore this start

Cosart probably just made a bet that our A team would win.

Great it's almost over.

Yeah I don't mind him using a game to work on his other pitches. Hell, give him a few more games...
