July 3, 201610 yr Author Smart move would have been to make the 26th man some shitbird pitcher from New Orleans so that he could come in and mop up once the Marlins are down by 47 runs. The Atlanta Braves offensive juggernaut takes no prisoners, in Atlanta nor in Fort Bragg. (But really, why call up a guy for one game who is nowhere near ready just to presumably send him down right after that will require a 40-man roster move?)

July 3, 201610 yr Pinch runner Yeah but it makes no sense to burn an option year on him and necessitate a 40-man move down the line just to have a PR for one game. Only makes sense if he's sticking around as the PR after today too.
July 4, 201610 yr Fyi Frisaro says it was an agreement between MLB and the players association to allow both teams to carry a 26th man for this one game. Still seems strange but I guess with this game having an exhibition feel considering the neutral site/crowd (despite the result counting) they probably didn't want the managers hindered by their rosters if the game goes into extras or anything like that. Probably allows them more flexibility just to create a better show for the crowd. I don't like it. It's an extreme example but what if Perez somehow wins this for us and at the end of the season the Marlins win the second wild card spot over the Mets by one game. Couldn't the Mets have a legitimate gripe that the Marlins got an extra win using a 26th man when the Mets never once got a chance to use a 26th man?

July 4, 201610 yr Anybody know what's the reason we been chosed to play this special game ? Braves were chosen due to the proximity to the base I assume and we were playing them on July 4th weekend
July 4, 201610 yr Yeah I feel like the schedule came before the event and the braves fit into the logistics. I almost feel like it wasn't even 100% about the braves. Like if the braves happened to be in, say, Milwaukee this past weekend they might have even tried to use different teams.
