Now, to be fair, the Mayor of London is an almost-socialist, and besides, the position is more of a figure-head than anything else. He's a walking talking quote machine - it's not like he has real power, and therefore hasn't much force behind his words.

The important questions now is... How long and how much?

IMO more than 10 years, maybe even more. Billions and billions (possibly a trillion) to fix a country when 90 miles Southeast of Key West there's a similar problem...

It will takes lots of money and some more lives to "fix" Iraq. But I, for one, am hopeful that the end result for the Iraqi people will be beneficial and everlasting.

No not that, Rippy. Everyone said at the beginning that we were going into Iraq because of WMD. WMD were never found. We did tho capture Saddam which is important. But idea of this war has gone from "The danger to america and it's interest because of WMD" to "We're here to capture a madman and rebuild a country and use billions that are needed here for Iraq."

 

If this was to capture a "dictator." Castro is a lot closer and has done his share of damage.

Look, I don't agree with the war either, I don't think we should be over there, but this war in terms of casualties is the greatest success in the history of the world in terms of wars involving one country taking over another, and even if we didn't necesarily belong in this war, the world is now ridded of one of it's worst tyrants. And you people are crying about moving to Canada?? That's truly pathetic.

 

I don't like Bush either, but I DO like the fact that Saddam can't kill, rape, pillage, and terrorize his own people anymore. As a matter of fact, for all of you whining about innocent Iraqis dying in this war, as many that have died, I can say with confidence that a lot more would have died because of Saddam's tyranny had we not taken over their country. And let me reiterate, I did NOT support this war. I had a feeling that Bush was lying about the WMD, which it appears he was, and I didn't see any just reason for us to fight this war, but now that we are over there and there's nothing that will change that until Iraq is stable, we should really try and support our own country.

But our press thats owned by 3 corporations is free? I don't know about your other statements, so I will research them. I hear a lot of Americans cross the border to buy Canadian pharmaceuticals because they are so much cheaper than in the US.

Canadian Gov't subsidizes the medical industry in canady (it's all publicly owned) and it sucks so bad canadians cross the border for medical services.

 

Our media is owned by more than three corporations. In Canada they have the CBC which is like PBS except about the size of NBS and CBS with commercials and hockey. They only other large competition on free tv that is nationwide in English is CTV which is owned by Media giant Belle-GlobeMedia (which also owns many cbale channels and the dish system in canada). Rogers (Blue Jays owner) owns the cable co's, lots of cable channels.

 

BTW, in canada it is illegal to have a big CBAND dish because it would allow you to see ESPN and other channels, which are illegal in Canada to see.

in order to drive cross country in Canada, you must get a permit and meet all of the red tape along with it. Canadians cannot drive an American owned car into Canada without a diplomatic permit. You cannot drive a vehicle if you are Canadian that doesn't have the Canadian Safety Org's stamp which you pay almost $40 a year for.

I told you. People who have different opinions are viewed as socialists. What happened to democracy? Free speech? Did we forget we can express our thoughts, even if it's to critize the President of the United States? I guess when Republicans critized President Clinton in the Monica trial... Republicans were socialists too? That seems to be the trend in todays world.

Not to go off topic, but to not call Iraq a military success is absurd. Hitler's generals, Alexander the great, Ceasar, you name it, they woulld be drooling at our accomplishment in military terms.

 

We took on a force that knew we were coming for quite a while, used deception brilliantly, took over more land faster than any other army in hsitory, and all at the cost of far less than 200 of our own. If Iraq was truly a threat, the cost we would of paid is like buying a porche for the price of a kia- its that good.

 

However, Magglio was against the war and still doesn't think it was justified. I agree, and he's suggesting don't move to canada...you proudly announced you have voted, so that means you must agree with him. We have to get Bush out and change the direction we are going in. But, to move to canada is just giving up and to not call Iraq a military victory is absurd!

 

Nevertheless, there was and probably will never be any justification for that war. These are indeed dark times.

Yes, I am concerned when thousands are being tortured for no reason. And i'm only 17 years old, so no I wasn't over there trying to make a difference. You make it sound like I didn't care about the raping and such because I wasn't over there. You weren't over there i'm guessing, as werent' millions of others, does that mean you and the millions of others don't care?

 

 

That's probably true, but when does this country worry about taking care of itself? What about the starving children in THIS country? What about terrorism in THIS country? Have we caught Osama? No- but we've captured a man who has done nothing to threaten the American way of life. Which, by the way, is not the way of life for about 75% of the rest of the world's population.

 

I'm sure this country is trying to take care of itself. To say that we aren't is hyposcrisy. Maybe we aren't spending as much as we should for ourselves, but the fact is, America has been the police of the world for the most part since world war I, and whether we like it or not, we are spending so much money abroad, that we don't have as much for ourselves. And you vastly underestimate the evil of Saddam by throwing in the 75% of the rest of the world's pop stat, which makes it sound to me like you don't think Sadaam was a bad guy.

I really wonder how powerful Saddam was in Iraq. A man with billions of dollars wouldn't just hide in a hole or let his sons be killed. Brings up some really good questions about his "powerful and threatful" regime as Bush noted before the attack.
