Is Joe right or wrong?

It is basically what some of us said all along. Last year's core was not a winning team, it is simply a fact. That is with them all having huge years last year, outside of Yelich who is better in 2018 as he mentioned. Obviously they are very talented players but it wasn't enough to win. There were no realistic additions that could be made over the off-season to turn them into a playoff team. These are facts, not opinions.

Maybe so but should have kept Yelich.  No reason to trade him (unlike Stanton and Ozo).

This is fair, I've wondered the same.

Though I can also see why the front office did ultimately decide to trade him... They thought he might become a clubhouse problem and then with that in mind they knew he could get the biggest/best trade return as far as talent since his trade had nothing to do with clearing payroll and he had the most years of control along with the most tradeable contract.

At the time I wasn't opposed to seeing what we could get for Yelich and I was very happy with the return at the time. I haven't given up on it either.

I agree with all of that.  But at the time (if my memory is correct) it sounded like both Yelich and Realmuto expressed displeasure at the other trades and wanted out.   They traded Yelich and not JT, probably because they got what they believed to be a good return for Yelich but not JT.  Then before this season in the media they portrayed Yelich to be a malcontent and JT to be a team player.  Seemed disingenuous to me.

Whatever Joe think, we are still 9-season straight .500 below and 15-season consecutive postseason drought team.

Joe is always wrong is usually my motto!

Basically last season they had a sub .500 team in place without any decent pitching , but with some exciting players , and now they have a super sub .500 team with few chances to win, still no pitching and already in next season mode until 2020. No one can say for certain what would've happened if they had kept the core together and made improvements, my guess is they would be in third place instead of last but still on the outside of the playoffs, so still not a successful season

This is Joe's take on how this season would have gone had last year's team stayed intact...

Maybe he's right and maybe he's wrong…
