December 20, 200322 yr Flamarlins.com, Frisaro says the Tejera deal is for $425K, and that he may be the temporary 5th starter until AJ returns. Also states that Almanza has been extended an offer. OMG what are they thinking? I hate to say it, but after all the good moves, these have me puzzled.

Repeat after me, repeat after me, "Admin Beinfest knows what he's doing...Admin Beinfest knows what he's doing..." But I have to say Alamanza and Tejera? I don't get it either.
December 20, 200322 yr Red - 840,000 Tejera - 450,000 Castro - 400,000 Banks - 400,000 Not sure if the figures were posted yet. Red took a 20% cut to stay.
December 20, 200322 yr oh shut up all of you Tejera is a solid arm who can spot start if needed... $450k is a bargain, quit your bitchin Mebbe $425K isn't too bad for a spot starter. But you add left handed relievers to your bullpen to shut down left handed hitters. Lefty Tejera had a 4.68 ERA last year (mediocre) and left handed hitters teed off on him for a .392 BA (terrible). Call it bitchin if you want. But a few good outings don't make a successful season. No way this guy deserves a raise.
December 20, 200322 yr From rotoworld: Marlins signed catcher Ramon Castro to a one-year, $400,000 contract. Castro shouldn't have settled this cheap. Now that he's likely to become Florida's starting catcher, the Marlins weren't going to cut him if he didn't accept the deal. You know I have to agree. I expected Castro to get around $500K with Rodriguez gone. :confused
December 20, 200322 yr Mike Redmond - C - Florida Marlins Dec 19 Marlins signed catcher Mike Redmond to a one-year, $840,000 contract. Redmond took a 20 percent pay cut to stay with the Marlins. He's expected to split time with Ramon Castro next season, but Castro will get a real opportunity to take over as the regular. Michael Tejera - R - Florida Marlins Dec 19 Marlins signed LHP Michael Tejera to a one-year, $450,000 contract. It was assumed that Tejera would be non-tendered, but he decided to settle for a very inexpensive deal after his disappointing 2003. Since Tejera was awful against left-handed hitters last season, he'll be viewed more as a middle reliever than as a specialist. Ramon Castro - C - Florida Marlins Dec 19 Marlins signed catcher Ramon Castro to a one-year, $400,000 contract. Castro shouldn't have settled this cheap. Now that he's likely to become Florida's starting catcher, the Marlins weren't going to cut him if he didn't accept the deal. Brian Banks - OF - Florida Marlins Dec 19 Marlins signed outfielder Brian Banks to a one-year, $400,000 contract. Banks will be back as a bench player next season. With Todd Hollandsworth gone, he could get some extra playing time, making him a nice $1 pick.
December 20, 200322 yr What about signing "El Duque"....if he regains his form teams will pay for him dearly due to his good postseason record - we trade him near the deadline when AJ hopefully will be back.
December 20, 200322 yr Would have liked to see Tejera let go. You never know what you'll get with him. I 100% agree. We have such an inconsistent bullpen. I don't want Tejera back. :marlins

Yeah, I just mentioned this in another thread. I think it is a solid idea and he might come cheap enough to be worth it.
December 20, 200322 yr roto world says that redmond was signed too, and that the fish got castro for 400k which is crazy because he is going to start next year and should of asked for more, great move by bienfest :cool
December 20, 200322 yr Great to have Big Red, Castro and Banker back. Good solid players at a good price. :thumbup
December 20, 200322 yr I agree with Ramp. I like Tejera. I think lefties hitting that high on him was a fluke. He put up solid numbers in the minors and I think he can do so in the pros too. With Wayne looking terrible this winter, I wouldn't be surprised to see him win the #5 starter job in spring training and do well.
December 20, 200322 yr it'll definetly be a battle 4 that 5th spot, if wayne gets it together, he has the best shot. IMO
December 20, 200322 yr I Like tejera in the Pen. He is very useful as a back up starter or something. When he starts hitting his spots he is unhittable. He proved it in the end of the season. He just needs to establish his control. I remeber when he was in our rotation because burnett and beckett were injured. He did a great job, winning his first 6.
