December 20, 200322 yr I heard he was non-tendered by the cubs. We need a 1st baseman who can produce if choi cant. How much is he worth??
December 21, 200322 yr Just wait till we get any confirmation that the marlins have interest in signing him or anyone else (like former Fish Mark Redman)
December 21, 200322 yr Any1 know how much hes worth?? pretty cheap...He'll probably command about 1.75 million.
December 21, 200322 yr 1-2 Mil. Would be Great for off the Bench. Can Hit the Philly Fanatic if he wants...
December 21, 200322 yr Any1 know how much hes worth?? He made $1,475,000 last season. He probably won't start anywhere (anywhere that has anything near a winning record, at least). The former Marlin-for-a-week should make less than that IMO. For a power hitter, his OPS is horrible, and his OBP doesn't even hit .310. Around $1 Mill sounds about right.
December 21, 200322 yr Author He had the bomb in the nlcs and always puts the ball in play which is good and oesnt strike out, plus we need a lefty.
December 21, 200322 yr 1-2 Mil. Would be Great for off the Bench. Can Hit the Philly Fanatic if he wants... If he hits The Phillie Phanatic, I kill him no questions asked... Just a thought, obviously Choi and Simon probably never said a word to each other on The Cubbies so would that really make Choi feel comfortable?
December 21, 200322 yr Randall Simon - 1B - Chicago Cubs Dec 20 Cubs non-tendered first baseman Randall Simon. The Cubs are still working on getting Michael Barrett signed before tonight's deadline. Simon should be just a pinch-hitter, but some team might give him a chance to start at first base against right-handers. The Pirates are believed to be interested in bringing him back. He could come cheaper than I expected...
December 21, 200322 yr I would rather sign Doug Mientkiewicz for 2 mil if he is non-tendered than Simon. Mientkiewicz is a lefty who gets on base alot with gold glove abilty and a line drive swing which is perfect for PPS.

He would start over Choi right from the get go. I mean, the guy hits .300 and gets on base at a .400 clip. Not to mention the fact that he could seemlessly (sp) replace Lee at 1B.

He played for FSU I believe.

December 21, 200322 yr I wouldnt like Simon at first. He has the ugliest swing and is a free siwinger. I dont another Preston Wilson here. Plus, when was the last time he started regularly?
December 21, 200322 yr Dougy, Dougy, Dougy! We want Doug! He has the glove, the bat, and is somewhat clutch.
December 21, 200322 yr Dougy, Dougy, Dougy! We want Doug! He has the glove, the bat, and is somewhat clutch. Easily one of the most underrated players in the game. Why did he have to tease me with the thought of Mien?
December 21, 200322 yr Well if we do get Doug its going to be via trade. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=mlb
December 21, 200322 yr I don't like the prospect of signing Simon. Choi is decent enough. He may struggle, but he'll still be worthy of a platoon role. And in that case I want Conine to get a breather at a first and a backup outfielder.

Do we really need that problem in this clubhouse?
December 21, 200322 yr Easily one of the most underrated players in the game. After the Most underrated player, Rafel Palmiero
December 21, 200322 yr After the Most underrated player, Rafel Palmiero :o :lol Anyways, I trust Banks as both the backup to jeff in LF or Choi at 1B, although I would still sleep better with some insurance. BTW: The most underrated player in the game today is Juan Pierre.
