So Sandy needs to figure out how to control his emotions until after an inning is over. He or someone else makes a mistake and then he instantly starts overthrowing because there's no downtime between pitches anymore. He needs to figure that shit out and fast. With nobody on he was filthy but the second something happened (i.e. DLCs blunder or his own) he immediately just started throwing hard without collecting himself.

Also, Jazz looks like hot trash this year. When he said he put on extra muscle for this season I was worried it would fuck his swing up and so far he's looked terrible and his swing is slower.

This was also a game where we had multiple balls hit hard that just went right to dbacks. Avi had some good swings today at least. They need him to keep doing that and for Jazz to return to some semblance of his old self to remain competitive.

Unpopular discussion...

Was 2022 for Jazz an outlier or is what we are seeing in 2023 a fluke?

I mean 2023 is a lot more in line with what he did in his cup of coffee in 2020 and in 2021 than 2022 was....

I know he is still young....but he seems to make the same dumb mistakes over and over again offensively and struggling to make consistent contact (which I believe was ALWAYS the knock on him coming up also)

He really is improving rapidly in CF.

Some of us said he would be just fine there.

His lack of offensive production is a FAR bigger issue than his defense going forward honestly...

I agree. I can see him figuring something out at the plate and having a ridiculous May.

Stanton-like.

I'm not TOO worried yet - more disappointed than anything.  We all know what Jazz can do he just needs to get back to doing it.

If he's still doing this at the end of May then I'll be much more alarmed.

Maybe he's been concentrating more on getting better with fielding than the offense/hitting side of things?

Probably but the ump really didn't help him out today. He was taking pitches that were balls that consistently were being called strikes. I thought he had a good approach by not swinging at balls, but obviously he needs to adjust when the umpire has a wide strike zone. He needs to make  more contact and foul off borderline pitches until he can get something to hit.

I didn't see any of the game.  Sounds like it was pretty bad.

"Good glove " wouldn't earn him big contract but "good bat" would.

Sure, but he's also learning a completely new position, so I'll give him a bit of a leash.  He definitely needs to get the bat going, though.
