Posted January 9, 200421 yr I pulled this off a Hurricanes site... 2) Multi-Facility Complex: The facility would be built in what is now the North OB parking lot. The first base line would have its "back" to the Northern sidelines. Imagine a baseball stadium along side the OB, the entire northern upper deck will be a luxury suite tower, much like what you see at Lambeau Field, plus the east endzone has an added upper deck. This would cost an estimated $375 million. The Canes and marlins would not have to share a field. Both stadiums would share concessions and restrooms and other infastructure, which is good for economies of scale. The suites in the OB would be limited to the Northern upper deck instead of the southern upper deck, so those seats would not be affected. The east endzone will have a lower level. There is quite a bit of conversation and some excellent pictures on the Canes site. OB Site
January 9, 200421 yr I hope it's true that this is just a ruse to force a multi-purpose stadium, btu that was probably just the 'Canes fans hatin'.
January 9, 200421 yr In Pic 1, there seems to be parking surrounding the two facilities? I have not been to the Orange Bowl site since 1975, there did not seem to be any parking available. Are they planning to use eminent domain to demolish homes to make parking lots?
January 9, 200421 yr there is no plan to acquire land at the moment. currently the orange bowl (on the bottom) looks like a real bowl and is surrounded on all sides by parking, though the parking lots are insufficient. in pic 1, they basically build over the large northern parking lot and remove upper bowl from orange bowl stadium to make room for a baseball stadium. this means there is even less parking since the northern lot is gone. the parking lots you see already exist at the orange bowl. there is no additional land or parking lots in this proposal.

And that's a bigger issue than most think. No parking = no casual walk-ups.

January 9, 200421 yr there's sufficient parking in the civic center, about 2 blocks away. i live next to the civic center, and i walk to UM football games myself, but i can tell you that the walk is too far for most people (it's MUCH, MUCH more than 2 blocks away). i couldn't imagine people walking around out there with their kids at nighttime after baseball games.

January 9, 200421 yr The D-Rays have something called the Looper Bus which goes in a loop of parking garages from 2 hours before, during, and 3 hours after the game. It is sponsored by the D-Rays, the garage owner, City of St. Pete and is pretty good.
January 9, 200421 yr not shocking that there will be insufficent parking. you have to have sufficent parking and eliminating parking in this proposal is just STUPID.
