Claydumb just said he sees Simpson being a “key piece” moving forward. He also said Rony was going to pitch if we had taken the lead. Come on, man.

What a terrible piece of managing.

Simpson certainly has swing and miss stuff but the guy has always been wild. He’s been absolute dog shit lately with this team and nothing about his recent performances suggest he should be in a high leverage 1-1 game facing the top of the order at Fenway. He set Simpson up to fail and he did miserably. It’s the top of the Red Sox order put your best RP you absolute moron of a pen manager

This isn’t an isolated example either. Clayton is continually making quite obvious bad pen decisions that have cost this team games

And I get they’re very young, make very little $ and are trying to not piss anyone off, but the after game reporters are not very good

Simple and genuine ask, not a criticism of what you're asking, but what questions do you want from them?

The questions were very softball and generic then they move on. Very little push back, boring questions, No follow up at all and accepted what Clayton said at fact value. They’re a million different stats they could have referenced about using Simpson vs Ronny, Faucher or even Phillips they’re. Not saying this is better, but nyc press would eat him alive for they move post game.

So ... what questions do you want them to ask?

He never gave an actual answer why Simpson was in there except to get “reps at a major league level.” This is essentially saying they’re more concerned with that than getting a win.

Another is what sis it about Simpson that made you confident he would success in a high leverage situation then reference his recent stats.

Ronny’s splits against lefties is much better than Simpsons.

Saying he put Simpson in there to get mlb reps is a pretty bad answer that needed follow up.

Polly.

What questions do you want them to ask?

Not what did they ask.

Phrase in the form of a question.

The questions you'd ask if given an opportunity.

First one - tell us what in numbers it is you saw that led you to put Simpson in the game vs Ronnie? For simpson, last 6 outings he’d given up 87 runs while Ronnie and/or Faucher had done X. In high leverage situations Simpson has done x. What made you confident that Simpson would succeed in this situation against these 3 hitters? What numbers did you see to support it?

To follow up when you say you’re trying to get young players mlb reps, do you say that at the expense of winning games? It sounds like getting guys reps is more important to putting the best guy in to pitch to actually win.

I can keep Going

Please do, daddy.

I think they are trying to see what lefty can perform under pressure and this was a test for Simpson. They did the same for Gibson even when it was obvious neither of them was good enough. They did the same for Ronny, bachar and Phillips and the first two look like diamonds in the rough.

Is it taking a more long term view at the expense of the short term yes. And they aren't going to be unprofessional and throw them under the bus. But like Ronny Simon I suspect they will publicly support them then quietly option Simpson in the next few days .

They are seeing if any of these arms will step up. So far if day tommy and bachar have although bachar is older. Remember Ronny was a waiver wire pick up. So far soriano, laurbett, gibson, and Simpson gave not shown they are MLB quality and that's ok.

Is it frustrating that it costs us games yes, but there is a plan for the long term and seeing if we can find a diamond on the rough is important given our budget constraints and seeing if w can get a serviceable lefty in the pen is a priority. It hasn't worked so they need to address it 😕 n the off-season.

Of course it's just a joke, the owners and the front office guys would trying to lose for whatever reasons but the managers and the players would do their best trying to win to earn the bigger contracts.

Certainly seems that way. The thing with Simpson is he’s been terrible his last 6-7 appearances. Let him have a good outing in low leverage before putting him in 1-1 game at Fenway with the crowd booming. It’s unfair to Simpson too. I think Simpson could be interesting some day and clearly can strike guys out but absolutely insane move to put him in in the context. Hes nowhere near ready yet.

It also essentially means daddy dix was lying (again) when he said he wanted to see the team try to win when they held fast at the deadline. Giving guys shots for mlb reps at the expense of a potential chance to win in August doesn’t square up together.

oh well, they just need to stay ahead of the Braves
