January 11, 200422 yr I dont think Choi is ready yet... It like saying Johnny Estrada (Catcher for Braves) is ready... I'll give Choi around 1-2 more years till he is really ready for the big show. That's what I have been saying this whole time since we got him for dlee which I still regret because we should have him to the american league instead of national. But if choi comes through when he is ready then I am so wrong about this post....We will have to just wait and see what happens with choi.

January 11, 200422 yr This not the the Choi era yet.. Give him a couple years.. He's almost 25 - Choi's time is now. A player doesn't need 4 years in the bigs to become acquainted. He had his apprenticeship in Chicago. And Johnny Estrada IS ready for the Braves, at least the team management thinks so.

He's got the numbers. He's got everything but veteran experience. Who cares if the lineup looks weak. Who cares if every team in the league thinking they'll have easy outs. Choi, Castro and Conine aren't Piazza, Palmeiro, and Manny but they are better than half of the rest of the starters in the league. Let the sportswriters count us out again. Let the pitchers throw fat fastballs against those easy outs. Screw your message board bragging rights. We don't need big names. Especially not on a team with a limited payroll. We need a team that can win. And we have that. MAN: Torborg < McKeonI'm with you. Forget the big names right now. It's the bullpen and bench i'd be looking to improve. People are down on Choi for some unknown reason. Last year he was one of the top position player prospects in the game and was having a pretty good rookie year until the concussion. Despite the injury and Dusty Baker's love of playing the veteran Karros, he still posted an OPS of .771, higher than Juan Encarnacion's(.759) last year. The only available player out there that I would have preferred to Choi in the lineup was Vlad. Now that he's out of play, they are better off giving Choi the opportunity. As for catcher, unless Castro's in prison, i'd go with Castro/Redmond. If they struggle, then i'd use the available money, if there is any, to go get a replacement during the season. Vlad would have been a great addition, but at least he didn't go to the Mets and is out of the NL East. Right now, i'd make Sauerbeck my top target, as well as another bat off the bench.

January 11, 200422 yr Allright, I will weigh in here. Choi is going to be fantastic, this year though he will only be promising. He is going to hit 20+HRs and probably bat anywhere from .260-.280. His K's might be ugly, 100+. But he is a very smart hitter, he just needs times and assurance he will be playing 1B. Vlad has NOT signed with the Angels yet. This is a case of everyone trying to get the drop on a big story - and everyone is basing their reports on the same set of sources. The Angels have not denied this report, so they are definetly in the running. It very well could be them, but something is keeping it from being final right now. Just wait...

January 11, 200422 yr This not the the Choi era yet.. Give him a couple years.. Why would you say this? Last year was his first year in the bigs and he just needed to get used to ML pitching. Now at least seeing it a little more than last year he should be able to do pretty good. People should stop looking at his avg and focus more on OBP and OPS. He had a 350 OBP even though only hitting 218. That is a better margin than most players in the league and posted a 771 OPS which is decent but the power should start coming as he gets more accustomed to major league pitching. LETS GO CHOI!!!!

January 12, 200422 yr I'm definetly with you. Besides the bullpen we need a big outfield bat to come off the bench. To give the team some insurance, to pressure Choi and Conine, to pinch-hit, to just give the team some options.
