easy the MLPA!, when they got word that Vlad there prized free agent these offseason was going to take a 1yr deal from the Marlins they were outraged. I told Ramp back in Nov. about the Angels being a strong player for Vlad. The key was the owner of the Angels (a latino) who hit well with Vlad. The MLPA push the Angels to get back in the race, it was a compromise. Vlad didn't want to go to Baltimore, and told them look there is nothing out there. Which was his goal to wait the process and end up here. So the Angels were the compromise, a team with money and a little of what Vlad was look for a latino community.Bottomline Vlad wanted to go somewhere where he felt comfortable. The Marlins were always his number 1# choice, but the Angels were right behind. The negatives with the Angels was the west coast, AL, and not really as rich in Dominicans as SFla. IMO if it was up to him, he'd be a Marlin, but again the MLPA would NOT allow such a thing to happen. O's were never a player. As far as why the Marlins deny it evertime..everwhere, well just take a look at this board it was crazy. You feel like crap today..which by the way someone should check on Juanky :p The Marlins chances were always slim, as I posted back in when all these was started. True, somedays like yesterday, the chances looked real good, but in the end it was never going to happen. It sad but the truth. :(

In the end,it came down to Vlad desicion but MLPA probably had alot influence on his desicion and the Money!!!

any Idea on who the marlins will target next Ed? besides a left specialist.

Thanks for the info Ed...

Another reason why the Marlins deny these type of rumors is that now everyone thinks we have an extra 13 Millions to go out and sign a couple of FAs

I believe EdCanes and his explination. Vlad said he wanted to go to an NL team with a major latin population in their city. That was CLEARLY a hint he wanted to go to Florida, and the MLBPA not allowing that to happen doesn't suprise me. These are the same ****ers who want to cry collusion because waaah!!!! our players aren't getting A-Rod like deals this offseason. Screw those retards, they mess up everything.

Vlad going to an AL team makes no sense, not to mention that the Anaheim/Orange County region is the epitome of white suburbia by what I understand. I think this deal reeks of MLBPA involvement, and this is why baseball is so far behind football in popularity, because the MLBPA won't let surprises like Vlad to the marlins happen because it would hurt their own personal best interests.

I agree with your comments on the MLBPA. I hope they don't kill the golden goose.

Vlad turning down a multi-year/70+ Million contract to take a 1 year contract, would have meant a very pissed off MLBPA.

I hate to say it, but the Angels didnt come out of nowhere. In fact, it was rumored they and the Giants were supposed to be darkhorses in the Vlad sweeps.

I remember reading about the MLBPA and their discuss about the lack of interest in Vlad just a few days ago - Fehr fell short of claiming this was some sort of conspiracy. In the end, this was going to happen - just like Ramirez and Thome. The FA didnt go where they wanted, ended up having to do the MLBPA's bidding. Unions suck, period. They are NOT representing the interests of the players. They are only interested in driving up the salaries of the players as much as possible. I am surprised there wasnt a backlash about the Lowell deal...

You got it, BUT don't close the book on those Kendall and Maddux rumors just yet... :whistle ...as for Mondesi, well I was told he'd have to take the similar 1 yr 1 million that Holly took last year, if he expect to be a Fish. And stop thinking his worth even what Juan Gone ( 4 mill/ a yr) got in KC.

According to the latest reports the Marlins never made a offer!

I beleive it!

No Offer, Zero Chances of landing Vlad.

Next it was projected that if the Marlins made an offer to Vlad it would be mostly deferred money until the year 3,000 or so.

Come On, Serious Offers Only.

I would have also been, considering his back, economic suicide for him. People can talk all they want about playing for the love of the game but $70 million and its effect on Vlad and his family can't be ignored. That's the reason I never expected him to come here in the first place, latin population not withstanding, because this was his time, his time to cash in.

I say congrats Vlad. I hope you prosper in Anaheim and out of the NL East. I hope your health holds up. Maybe in a few years, if the Marlins can get a stadium deal done and can start paying for talent like his, we can really compete for 5 tool players on a par with the team owners who have the big bucks now. Until then we'll have to count on Admin Beinfest and his extraordinary team to level the playing field and keep us competitive.

Because i'm also hearing in the latest reports that you are an Angels fan trying to say BS to make the marlins fan feel like they never had a shot at Vlad.

I also gotta say Congrats to Vlad and Good Riddance he is out of the NL

though we didn't get vlad, this is the 2nd best scenario- at least he's not in our division anymore- not even in our league either

btw, congratz on landing Vlad. Angels look like a very sick team in 2004

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/7683690.htm I see the 2 word quote of "not true" from "a team source." That isn't going to convince me that they didn't make an offer. That article is not specific at all, and how do I even know the marlins actually said that when their is a 2 word quote from an unnamed team source and that's it.

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/7683690.htm The FO is probably downplaying the fact that they made an offer because they do not want us Fish fans expecting them to go out and spend 13 million just because they didn't get Vlad. This is another example of "special money" just like the Pudge Rodriguez deal. If Pudge hadn't signed that money would probably have gone mostly unused much like this money will. I doubt the FO will go out and spend more money and I think they are confident with the team they have right now and are fine going into the season with this team.

Congratulations vlad best of luck,we love you here in miami, your welcome here anytime!!!!!

Thanks, the Marlins still have a good team, I am impressed.

I figured that the MLBPA would find a way to screw this up for the Fish and now I have seen it come true. It was a nice dream for a while, but now its time to move on and see if we could sign someone else that could improve our team.

If it make you feel better to say to yourself Vlad top and only choice was the Angels..go right ahead. If you want to say the Marlins were NEVER a player in the Vlad sweepstakes and NEVER offered? You'd be WRONG! Sometimes teams don't want the public to know what there doing all the time. because thing like Freah Fish points out happen..............also you'd have people say, if they had that money why didn't they keep D.Lee? see my point. It was a no-win situation for the team to make these chase public.

Oh and btw...

With all the publicity about the "arms war" between the evil empire (yankees) and evil empire north branch (red sox) I would say with the signings of Vlad, Escobar, and Colon that the Angels had just as good of an offseason as the Red Sox and Yankees.

I figured that the MLBPA would find a way to screw this up for the Fish and now I have seen it come true. It was a nice dream for a while, but now its time to move on and see if we could sign someone else that could improve our team.

Besides the MLB taking away the All-Star Game from us a few years ago and giving it to Atlanta?
