January 15, 200422 yr Tigers: Neither agent Scott Boras nor Tigers president/GM Dave Dombrowski has said on record that they're talking with each other about free agent catcher Ivan Rodriguez. However, Boras told The Associated Press that they're "talking to a couple of clubs." Tigers flagship station WXYT-AM 1270 quoted an "insider" as saying Detroit is one of the two teams left in the running for Rodriguez, who is reportedly seeking $30 million over three years. Link Apparently he lowered his demand to 3 year,10 mil

January 15, 200422 yr Haha, Good Luck Pudge going from World Champ to Biggest Joke of the MLBes... And Boras keeps on with his BS that there number of clubs talkin to him and his client..
January 15, 200422 yr This is such a great story. When Pudge turned us down there were 3 places I'd like to see him go: Come back here in May, Japan and Detroit. This is hilarious!
January 15, 200422 yr You know what? I'll give Pudge credit; throughout this whole thing, he hasn't backed down from his demands, and while he's being unrealistic and delusional, he at least is steadfast in his demands, and that'll probably get him what he wants. There'll be a team that will give him $10 mil a season, like we did last year.
January 15, 200422 yr you give him credit for being an idiot? No, I give him credit for making the best of a very bad situation. He has no serious interest, and he knows that he was in this same situation last year, and he ended up getting what he wanted. Although every single one of us is happy with the signing, and I'll tell you, I'd do it again if given the chance, we overpaid for Pudge, probably unnecessarily too. However, Pudge knows that he'll be able to convince some team into a one year thing, like he did last year, and because he stayed stubborn and didn't settle for an offer worse than ours, he's actually put himself in a decent position. I mean think about it, the Orioles always wanted Javy more than him, and other than us and the O's no team bid on him. It's not like he drove interest away, there never was any in the first place. After he rejected our offer, which he and Boras probably both regret, he pretty much put the $10 million or bust sign on , and I honestly believe he won't sign anywhere until he gets that...
January 15, 200422 yr You know, let him finish out his career in Detroit if money is all that really matters to him.

This is hilarious! agreed.....go play with the japs or a loser team like the tigers....or come back here with your tail between your legs I actually hope he returns ... cant bear the idea of having to watch castro slump for an entire season (provided the raper isnt in jail)
January 15, 200422 yr Thursday, January 15, 2004 Tigers hope for a big catch Rodriguez could be theirs if another team doesn't enter picture By Tom Gage / The Detroit News The Tigers are acting like a team that can?t quite meet Rodriguez?s asking price, whatever that might be, but intends to be first in line whenever agent Scott Boras hoists the ?discount? sign.

There'll be a team that will give him $10 mil a season, like we did last year. And he is standing behind his man Boras. Just exactly what he is doing back there, we cant be too certain... I cant believe he still thinks he is getting $10M. WTF?

This is hilarious! coulnd't have said it better... i still dont know whats better Japan or Detroit .... man he could have finished his career here
January 15, 200422 yr I think he is going to end up there because he wants to play and there is no other place to go. If he has to lower the money to do that then that's what he is going to do. I think he is a great player and I still respect the guy but damn pudge this is what you get for two reasons: 1. Boras 2. Being greedy and listening to boras. Good luck wherever you go....wish you where here though.
January 15, 200422 yr I have a question....when we were negotiating with Pudge in early December, my understanding was that if we did not get him signed by that magic date (December 10th, was it?), we would not be allowed to even talk to him again until May 1st, 2004. Then, i read the following clip in rotoworld about a completely unrelated player\team: -------------------------- LATEST NEWS - January 15 - Previous News The Red Sox have offered Jeremy Giambi a minor league contract. If Giambi re-signs with Boston, he wouldn't be eligible to play in the majors until May 1. That'd probably be OK, though, since he may need some extra time to rehab his surgically repaired shoulder. -------------------------- Giambi was let go by the Sox, but they are able to negotiate with him...the stipulation there is merely that Jeremy would not be able to play for the team until May 1st. Is there a difference between the Giambi situation and the Pudge situation? Or could we in theory sign Pudge before the season starts but not play him until May 1st?
January 15, 200422 yr I believe Giambi situation is because he is injured... Pudge may as well come back here begging, even though the tigers should win twenty more games this year with their additions, though a 20 game improvement is still, about as low tier you get... Pudge has guts to come back down here for Marlins team meets and stuff...
January 15, 200422 yr Pudge has guts to come back down here for Marlins team meets and stuff... Yeah, I agree with that. He forgot that he slapped a lot of people in the face on the way out.
January 16, 200422 yr i like your avatar, fishin2004 yeah - talk about a pic worth a thousand words, huh?
January 16, 200422 yr UPDATE: 1270 in Detroit is reporting that Pudge, his family, and Scott Boras are in Detroit and staying at the Ritz Carlton over there. It looks like this might be the team signing him since Detroit would be willing to overpay since they have $ and no one wants to go overthere. And you know that Dombrowski loves having a good signal caller especially for his young pitchers.
