February 11, 200422 yr Mlb.com How do you think he'll do? He's got a chance, but it doesn't look too promising. He's gonna have a little competition.
February 11, 200422 yr I figured he was pretty much a lock to get a spot in the bullpen. We're a bit think there, so I think he'll make it.
February 11, 200422 yr his 1.64 whip and his 4.29 K/9 from last season (tiny sample size) aren't so hot, but considering how worthless our bullpen is, i also figure he's pretty much a lock to make the team.
February 11, 200422 yr He had a spot on the A's last year, so I don't see any reason why he won't get the job here. It's not like he's going to take the job from Fox or Benitez, so I don't see a problem...
February 11, 200422 yr i think hes got a good shot to make the team will just have to wait and see how things turn out. go fish
February 11, 200422 yr We need any reliever we can get. lets give him a chance, he is very young and fits good into this team. I havent seen him pitch yet so i cant judge him on that...
February 11, 200422 yr Yeh I think he will make the team. But not by close I think he will do good in ST and then be a pitcher to rely on in the season. I like this guy and he will prove his stuff here in florida and the athletics will regret letting him go. I am not saying he will explode this season but yeah he is going to do a great job as the years go on.
February 11, 200422 yr I'm liking the ERA, and PPS plus our awesome defense will help out that WHIP...
February 11, 200422 yr I assume you all know he pitched in the recent UM vs UM alumni game and got shelled in the first inning for six runs or so.
February 11, 200422 yr I assume you all know he pitched in the recent UM vs UM alumni game and got shelled in the first inning for six runs or so. And you put thought toward an exhibition alumni game that means absolutely nothing that was created to have fun?
February 11, 200422 yr I would put less than 0% importance on his performance at the alumni game. If youve ever seen it, it's like batting practice pitching.
February 11, 200422 yr Take a second and think about this: Beckett goes 7, with an electric fastball Neu comes in the 8th with a terrific changeup, messing with hitters timing Benitez closes out the 9th with again, blazing fastballs Neu's success is not dependent on K's or a lively fastball. His job is to get guys out and to keep them off balance. Where he pitches is just as important, and he has a pretty good mental make up and has achieved some pretty solid numbers already. I think JRS's dimensions and the defense will only help him. He will be very good this season and I like this guy a lot.
February 11, 200422 yr I think Neu will make this team BUT will be so-so. But that is the best we can do.
February 11, 200422 yr Benitez closes out the 9th with again, blazing fastballs With our infield, think splitter.
February 12, 200422 yr Man, everyone is so down on our young players you might think Miguel Cabrera and D-Train were thirty when they broke into the league. Neu did a good job with the A's last year (yeah, in a mop-up role), but he's got good stuff and has shown some promise. He should do well back in Miami. If not there's plenty of options! Blaine Neal, Justin Wayne, Kevin Olsen, Nate Bump, Tommy Phelps, Nannini and a number of veterans wanting to proving they aren't washed up will all be given looks in spring training.

February 12, 200422 yr He had a spot on the A's last year, so I don't see any reason why he won't get the job here. The A's had to keep him on the big-league roster. He was a Rule 5 pickup so if they tried to send him to the minors, they would've had to offer him back to the Reds for $25,000 first. With a strong starting rotation and the DH rule, the A's could stash somebody in their bullpen that wouldn't have to do much. Neu was a low draft choice (29th round) but had some decent minor league numbers. His big problem seems to be throwing strikes - 5.6 BB per 9 IP last season. Surprisingly, his ERA and WHIP were quite a bit lower on the road last year, even though Oakland is a pitcher's park; it was a very small sample size though. If Fox and Benitez perform like they should, Neu should be just fine giving us an inning or so in the 6th or 7th inning of games.
February 12, 200422 yr Mike Neu MLB K/BB 0.73, BB/9 5.57, K/9 4.29 AAA K/BB 2.61, BB/9 4.02, K/9 10.49 AA K/BB 4.22, BB/9 3.00, K/9 12.67 A K/BB 2.34, BB/9 5.58, K/9 13.05 it's very odd that his K/9 dropped so much from AAA to the bigs.
