February 16, 200422 yr Author Just to explain my post, basicaly John HEnry goes cheap on a couple of million bucks and doesn't make the 'AROD to Boston' deal happend. Now, Boston not only loses the best player in baseball, but now the best player in baseball goes to their #1 rival. Can you say the 'Curse of AROD'? I feel bad for baseball, but I do feel good about John Henry getting screwed on this.

February 16, 200422 yr Reaction in Fort Myers/Cape Coral/Naples Half of town just got uplifted today. (The Twins side who doesn't have to see A-Rod as much anymore) Half of town just got out the liquor. (The Red Sox side which is calling AM770 and moaning over it) The old Rangers fans are loving the "payroll flexibility" and the Marlins fans are laughing all the way to Opening Day with the Rings.

Yeah, I'm pissed that the Rangers games are going to be like 3 more against the Expos now. At least our interleague schedule is going to be much easier now. We've got Cleveland, Detroit, a rebuilding Texas, Tampa, and the White Sox. Only team out of those that may have a winning record is Chicago, and if they're out of it by the time we play them, they probably won't have Magglio. Just looking at our schedule now, June may be the most important month for us because the teams we're playing aren't really expected to do much this year (Atlanta depending on who you talk to, but no games against the Phils at all that month). Could be a big advantage heading into the all-star break...

In the grand scheme of things, that $16M Lucchino wouldn't come up with is going to look like a pittance as A-Rod and co. are knocking them out of another AL Championship.
February 17, 200422 yr I'm disappointed I won't see A-Rod when Texas comes to town but offsetting that is the sheer joy I feel that the once miserly prevaricator, now spendthrift, John Henry has lost another round, failing again in a vain attempt to buy victories and respectability when he has no entitlement to either. I thought the best post so far was the one who asked how John Henry must have felt watching our beloved Fish, the team he so coldly abandoned, capture the World Series while his Red Sox were left with nothing to show for their efforts except the task of firing Grady Little so Henry could have his scapegoat. I think back to two summer nights in Fenway, one in which the Red Sox humiliated the Marlins before a national audience and the second, down eight runs when the Marlins came back in victory. The Rangers' will be no slouch this summer, but we have a better chance of being victorious without A-Rod in the lineup. In the big picture this is good for the Marlins because an interleague win counts as much as any other. Some suggest it's the curse of the Bambino, some even put forth a new curse, the A-Rod curse, but it's really the curse of John Henry, perrenial loser. The Red Sox will never win a World Series until John Henry is gone. And as a Marlins fan that pleases me no end.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I have seen 16 million figure before. 16 Millions by 7 years left on A-ROD contract = 2.29Million a Year. The Boston Red Sox are looking like crap today.
