  1. sorry, I looked at the first two pages of comments and I didnt see anything about the Stark article posted today once again, I apologize if I missed it
  2. chances are you will only see him if Redmond or LoDuca gets hurt and even that is doubtful because if the Marlins happen to slip out of the playoff race and if LoDuca were to get injured, there is a better chance that they will give Willingham the opportunity to gain some major league experience behind the plate Matt Treanor's days as a Marlin in the majors is most likely finished
  3. According to Jayson Stark, the Florida Marlins did the best job of improving themselves before the deadline. He also added, and this was agreed with by many other GMs that Beinfest has now elevated himself to among the elite GMs in the game today. The story is currently on the espn frontpage.
  4. just what this team needed offensively to spark some BIG things!!!!!
  5. Guillermo Mota is unquestionably one of the best set up men in baseball. To this point in the season, once we lost Chad Fox our bullpen has been extremely below average and we have probably over-worked Benitez. Bringing in Mota makes us a 7 inning team and gives us the possibility of occasionally resting Benitez in a save situation from time to time. LoDuca will bring us MUCH NEEDED CONSISTENCY from behind the plate both offensively and defensively. Redmond and Treanor are nothing more than career backups. Encarnacion brings back a top notch glove to right field and allows us to move Cabrera back to the easier LF spot. Conine will move to first where he is very adequate defensively and even more importantly since he doesnt have to expend as much energy playing defense (remember he is 38 years old) playing 1B full-time might actually improve his offense. Remember that he played 1B almost exclusively in Baltimore for the two years prior to his trade back to the Marlins. We moved him to LF last year out of necessity. Penny is good, but he was expendable. Choi was developing nicely and could be a star down the road however he wasnt producing runs and let's face it. The name of the game is to win NOW!!!! and while this trade doesnt shoot us up to the level of the New York Yankees, it definitely makes us a better team for the rest of the season. Considering that we are only three games back from Atlanta and we face them head to head a good amount from here on out. We have a very good shot at returning to the post-season.

    poor odom....

in my mind losing Lamar Odom gave us two things 1. we unloaded the risk of having this guy do something stupid off the court and 2. Not having Odom now gives Wade the opportunity for a lot more perimeter touches now that we dont have to worry about Odom taking his 20 shots a game and in the process we got the MOST DOMINANT player in the NBA today I havent been this excited about an upcoming NBA season in at least 10 years

    poor odom....

the guy disappeared long before the trade rumors even came about to me, Lamar Odom is a guy with a VERY questionable past and could be a time-bomb just waiting to go off it was a GREAT move getting rid of him
  8. Im a big believer in Wright BUT there is no way we should expect much from him this season. the kid has only played 2 years of organized basketball PLUS KG took 3 years to develop into anything, Kobe took 3 years, Jermaine O'Neal took almost 5 high school players bring a lot of potential but you HAVE TO BE patient Look for 15-20 minutes a game in role duty with an increase in minutes as the season goes along. but in all seriousness, expect the kid to get his azz-kicked for the first few months of the season. and dont get all worked up when he does. its the standard learning curve
  9. to be honest with you, I really dont want Payton anyways he has attitude issues that we dont need or want his performance isnt really that great these days anyways and he would take touches away from Dwayne Wade Id rather have a PG who doesnt require shots and keeps his mouth shut honestly, Id rather have Derek Fisher or someone like that I AM however excited about the possibility of getting Karl Malone as long as his knee is sound Malone solves our PF issue. remember, when he was healthy he was still good for 18 points and 10 boards a game Plus, he is one of the top 3 players in the NBA for the pick and roll game (the other two being KG and Duncan) The thought of Wade and Malone playing the pick and roll two man game with Shaq in the middle gets me really excited
  10. as you can tell from the way teams are pursuing him there is no way he is going to be convicted in this case with all the surrounding evidence concerning the accusers statements the day after the alleged incident and all of the other behaviors she has exhibited plus the fact that it comes down to; he said, she said there is no way that they can prove rape beyond a reasonable doubt NOT A CHANCE
  11. he is talking about buying out his contract also, there is a possibility that the Lakers may even release him out right he is due to make something like 9 million next year after he exercised his player option for this year now that Shaq is officially gone with Malone likely to follow. Dont be shocked to see the Lakers grant Payton's request to rescind the contract
  12. good to see that people are starting to see the infinite wizdom of making this trade yes last years team was a lot of fun. but with that style of play and lack of a true big man the reality is that they were no better than a 2nd round playoff team. Maybe an occassional trip to the conference finals which we would never win Shaq brings a dominant player that will only make Dwayne Wade better. Wade will get more perimeter touches with Odom and Butler gone. Wright looks like a potential gem and makes Caron expendible. Plus, Caron has a tendancy to get lazy in the off-season and once he gets his next contract he might get complacent. Having Shaq and Dwayne Wade means that others will want to come and play for the Heat for the chance for a title ex. Karl Malone, Derek Fisher???? if you thought last years team was fun, wait til you see next years version!!!!!
  13. people are saying that we could be the Lakers of last year w/o Kobe Bryant but dont you see what could be going on here?????? Phil Jackson left the Lakers for one reason.....KOBE BRYANT Shaquille O'Neal wanted out of the Lakers for one reason.......KOBE BRYANT Its obvious that Kobe is a real piece of work to play with so perhaps we might get the Shaq/Malone/Payton trio here with not only the motivation to win but to win without Kobe Bryant as if to show him up. Getting Payton doesnt really excite me but if he is willing to play the right role and keep his big mouth shut it would be fine but getting Malone, if his knee is sound would be AWESOME think about it, being able to run the pick and roll with Wade and either Malone or Shaq. With the extra touches he is going to get on the perimeter now that Odom is gone and having two experienced and capable big men would make a player like Wade absolutely unstoppable not just from a scoring perspective, but just like the article said about Wade being a phenominal passer. Wade will give those guys the scoring chances that Kobe took for himself. Wade is a team player and its becoming more and more apparent that Kobe is a straight up punk. These guys want to play with Dwayne Wade HOW CAN YOU GUYS NOT BE EXCITED ABOUT THESE EVENTS????? because of Lamar Odom?????? trust me, youre not going anywhere with a player like Lamar Odom
  14. I aint praying for this not to happen it better happen cause no team that needs Lamar Odom to take 15-20 shots a game is ever going to win a conference title let alone an NBA championship think about it. Riley supposedly coveted Odom for years and now he's willing to trade him after only having him for 1 year what does that tell you??????
  15. not talking NOW Im talking two years from now
  16. plus, getting rid of Odom will allow Wade the opportunity for more touches on the perimeter which for me is a good thing
  17. well under the current situation being that Riley said that signing Shaq to an extension wasnt a priority it makes me think that this could be a money clearing move for something bigger. Bringing in Shaq for only two years makes the Heat a MAJOR player in the FA market in only two years. And since Yao is going to be the next major FA prize its going to be interesting to see if the Heat go in that direction. Regardless, to me trading a guy like Odom was a necessity to make Wade a better player. Odom requires a lot of touches to make things happen and that only takes away from Wade. Even with Shaq, Wade is the centerpiece of our franchise and this trade only makes him better. Both by having Shaq in the middle to take defenses away from doubling and by giving him the opportunity to have more touches and for me, anything that puts the ball in Dwayne Wade's hands more is a good thing
  18. I was wondering when he becomes FA eligible. Now that we have Grants contract off the books and being that we only have Shaq signed for two years (I think) Is it possible that the Heat could be positioning themselves for a run at Yao when he hits free agency???? Could be an interesting thought. Yao, Wade and Dorrell Wright??????
  19. I dont know about you guys but the three man attack of Shaq in the middle, Wade slicing and dicing and Eddie from the outside has me thinking of big things next year. Itd be nice to have a PG but with those three guys doing most of the work all we need is someone servicable which Riley has no problem finding and if this Dorrell Wright kid is what they are saying he could be, we should have some fun stuff going on down here for the next few years
  20. I too have met both Penny and Pavano and my reactions were the same Pavano is a prick (sorry I love him on the mound but the guy has a serious attitude problem when dealing with people) and Penny is a really nice guy, a bit on the quiet side, but not where it puts you off. He is very friendly, just not a big smiley gregarious guy like Dontrelle. my run-ins with both Beckett and Dontrelle have always been congenial. Beckett may carry himself with a sort of cocky self-confidence but I always get the feeling from him that his heart is in the right place as for Dontrelle, what you see on the field is what you get in person. an all around great person
  21. actually woody paige said Kerry Wood would be the NL Cy Young
  22. believe me, I am one of the most cautious and sort of pessistic people when it comes to touting young players but this kid is already showing so much improvement over where he was last year he isnt fishing for that low outside breaking pitch anymore and his strikeout rate is down from last year its scaring me how good this kid might become
  23. what amazes me is his plate discipline he isnt going for that low outside breaking pitch anymore. he got fooled by that pitch a lot last year honestly, I dont see how pitchers are going to get this kid out. he is a quick learner, he adapts, he has power to all fields, he isnt married to pulling the ball I'M IN UTTER AMAZEMENT OF THIS KID for just as much of the intangibles (his discipline and his quick learning curve) as I do for his extraordinary talent.
  24. 4 homeruns in his last 9 ABs the kid is AMAZING!!!!!
  25. 2 homers and an rbi single Penny pitching a dandy so far
