2018-2019 Off-Season Thread
I think people are targeting 2020 because of revenue. New TV deal, projected new naming rights deal, Prado and Castro off the books. That would be the first year we make a Hot Stove splash.

2018-2019 Off-Season Thread
I think back to the JD Martinez free agency. He was another local kid and MVP-caliber talent. The Marlins clearly weren’t in a position to chase him. But because his market was cooler than expected, the opportunity was there to pursue a value deal. If Machado really turned off suitors in the postseason, and the Phillies blow their load with Harper, maybe it makes sense for the Marlins to test the waters? They could backload the deal to match with the naming rights and new TV contract. The fit is obvious on and off the field. It would be a year too early. But if you can get a reasonable deal in a cool market, why not?

Marlins officially sign Mesa brothers
What does the BA article on them say? It’s members only but seems pretty in-depth.

Brian Anderson compared to other NL rookies
Right, but when Lowell came back our full-strength lineup was Lowell-3B, Conine-LF and Cabrera-RF. In any event, I would put Anderson over Encarnacion.

Brian Anderson compared to other NL rookies
Anderson is a very good young player. Although he is an old rookie, he still has upside as he gets stronger. And of course Anderson could start on a WS team. He would have started at RF on our 2003 team with Miggy kicking to LF and Conine hitting the bench.

Fangraphs reflects on 2018 Marlins
I'm still happy that I don't have to think about Jeffrey Loria and David Samson anymore. That feeling carried me through the whole year. I'd say it's way too early to judge anything with this new regime. And even if we do knee-jerk reactions, I would still make most of the same moves. I'd rather have Sandy than Ozuna and I'd rather have the Seattle package than Gordon. The Stanton trade was about cleaning up Loria's financial mess and dealing with the no-trade clause. The Yelich deal gets the most attention, but the results on the Marlins side are still TBD. Let's say Isan Diaz is a .750 OPS walks and homers 2B with solid defense. That's not a crazy projection. And let's say Yamamoto ends up being like a righty Caleb Smith (high spin rate, lots of Ks). Then it's really about Brinson and Harrison, who have flashed their talent and have legit upside. It may not be a home run trade, but I can see it helping along the rebuild.

New Baseball America article on Marlins Draftees
Anybody know what it says? https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/marlins-teenage-trio-quickly-rises-up-the-ranks/

Brinson
He had an .848 OPS in June with 93 PAs. That is encouraging. His ABs the past few games have been discouraging but I don’t see any value in sending him down. He’s already killed AAA pitching. I wish he would just get over Mendoza. I think his average is having a negative impact on him mentally.

Frisaro doesn't think Marlins will trade Realmuto
JT is not 34. He’s 27. If we are good in four years (which should be the expectation), he will be 31. I can remember a pretty good Marlins team led by a 31-year-old catcher.

Frisaro doesn't think Marlins will trade Realmuto
You would rather bet on an unproven player? JT is constantly improving. This isn’t a fluke, it’s a natural progression.

6-12 Giants @ Marlins
I missed the Mike Hill spot. Did he say anything interesting?

Nationals Recently "Checked In" on J.T. Realmuto
Re-sign JT and build around him. Period. Those guys are hard to find. He can be a championship cornerstone like Posey, Molina, Posada or Pudge.
