  1. Yeah, I was excited to pick him up on my fantasy team as someone waived him. I got rid of him a couple days ago.
  2. Vargas and Gerardo are in FCL. They were both very good in DSL last year. Assume Peguero is there as well but he hasn't played yet. A host of young pitchers too. Janero Miller is the big signee in the DSL.
  3. Dominican Chicken Soup here. Lady from work made it for me. The FCL and DSL seasons started yersterday.
  4. Trevor j'daniel with 5ip, 1 hit 0 er, 5ks in aaa. Oh and some guy named Eder made his 2023 debut for Jupiter.
  5. Their farm system is brutally bad, might be even worse than the garbage product they put on the MLB level. Langeliers or Soderstrom would be upgrades at catcher but they'd want a king's ransom for either one. Ruiz would be useful as a PR. Mason Miller is their future ace but he's hurt and right now we don't need SP. Other than that, the cupboard is very , very empty. Their best asset is their comp draft pick at 39.
  6. Teams get competitive balance picks by being in the bottom 10 in revenue or by being in one of the 10 smallest markets. I believe we qualify by being in the bottom 10 in revenue. We traded our comp balance pick in last year's draft in the Tanner Scott/Cole Sulser trade to Baltimore (along with Antonio Velez and Kevin Guerrero). The O's took Dylan Beavers OF with the pick. Right now he has been mediocre in A ball. Velez and Guerrero both have pretty bad numbers in the O's organization.
  7. Yes, but they have to qualify by either signing for a certain amount or signing for the average of the top 125 players. It's a little complicated and I think I got it right, if not pretty close. I can't see any Marlins, including Soler, meeting that criteria this year. We do get a competitive balance pick, which is similarly complicated (pretty sure the people that drew up the tax code, drew up the draft rules). There is an A and B pool of that which are after the first and second round. It looks like only three teams got comp picks for their player's signing elsewhere. (Cubs-Contreras, Giants-Rodon, Braves-Swanson). Those picks are after the comp B picks which are after the second round. Also, they have a draft lottery now and we moved from 9th to 10th in the first round because the Twins moved up (13th to 5th). There also a prospect promotion pick which Seattle gets because JRod won ROY. (Again, complicated). Then for some reason we moved up from 9th to 8th in the second round because Texas doesn't have a pick (as do a lot of other teams because they signed a free agent). If you are exhausted reading this to summarize quickly we have: the 10th pick (1st round), the 35th pick (comp round A), and the 47th pick (2nd round). And if we want we can trade the comp pick or trade for other team's comp picks (We did this last year trading our comp A 33rd pick to Baltimore). The draft is 20 rounds and is now moved back to the All-Star Break, July 9-11. Hope that helps.
  8. Didn't think they would trot him out for the ninth. He's a converted starter and had a really good year in A ball two years ago as a starter. Still needs some more seasoning in the minors and maybe some Mel magic, but this is how you potentially develop players for the long haul and a big piece of our future is the international signings which were a barren wasteland up until a couple of years ago.
  9. Not the best outing for George but good to get in some low pressure work. He's a homegrown talent, been with the organization for 8 years, and he's still only 24. Not quite ready for primetime but there's no reason he can't be as service as Brazoban who is 8 or 9 years older.
  10. Get Soriano some work here and just let him fling it in a no pressure situation.
  11. If the A's do move to Vegas I don't see any way they keep their nickname. They will probably bandy about some stupid gambling related names but MLB probably won't let them get too goofy with them. And, go Eury.
  12. Here's one. Feel free to offer me your thoughts. I have a few others saved but would have to dig to find them. How Do Baseball Players Age?: Investigating the Age-27 Theory - Baseball ProspectusBaseball Prospectus Edit: sorry that did not link. Don''t know how to do it, but google it if you'd like to read it.
  13. A good one. If Trevor deals in his last rehab then we have six legit starters. Edward Brany was the obvious odd man out but he pitched a gem tonight. Sandy has probably been our worst starter. Cueto (lol) is rehabbing too, which would make 7 SPs. We are on the hook with him for some cash. It is a good problem to have. Thoughts? Ideas?
  14. The game and series is in Miami and Oakland is playing so naturally it is blacked out here even though I'm at least 600 miles from either city. Yay, MLB network.
  15. There are numerous studies that support the theory that baseball players peak between ages 27-29. I would be happy to link a few if you are interested, but I am not sure if I am allowed to provide links. I agree the DH does allow for longer productivity at the plate, however most players productivity declines at the age of 30 and statistically, their productivity falls off a cliff after age 33. Signing someone to a ten year deal at age 30 is ludicrous and unless a team has unlimited funds and can set them back for years. Just because Soler is white hot at the current moment doesn't mean we shouldn't entertain offers for him. With the right offer everyone is available. I don't think his trade value is all that high given he is in an opt out year and his current performance likely won't sustain itself in the future. If I'm wrong and he hits 40 or 50 homers then I'm going to be ecstatic.
  16. This is just like last year when we should have traded Cooper and there was pushback because he had a hot stretch. Now you would be lucky to get a used back of baseballs for him. We should trade Soler at his peak. The reality is he's in a hot stretch but will regress and or likely get hurt. He is old and about a .220 .230 hitter max. Some people think he will hit 40 or even 50 home runs, my opinion is that he will be lucky to get 30. I don't think he really has much trade value but if we could package him with Brazoban (while he still has value), Cooper or Gurriel, and one of our starting pitchers (we have 6 not counting Cueto, Meyer, or Eder) and get one of two young controllable bats we will be better in the short and long term. We won't end up trading him because there is not a team out there stupid enough to give up anything of worth (well maybe the Yankees) for him and we will be saying woulda, shoulda, coulda in the future and complaining why Kim didn't unload him when she had the chance.
  17. BIG NICK FORTES! i hate you jean segura-pre AB I love you mean Gene.- post aB.
  18. what just happened?
  19. i dont really like our draft strategy of drafting old ass pitchers and college hitters. hs guys are boom with lots of busts but they have way more upside. drafting 22 year old and 23 yeard old pitchers is just stupid, imo.
  20. On the bright side Rogers looked very good in rehab tonight. Granted it was in low-A, but 4ip, 1 hit, 1 bb, and 7 k's is encouraging.
  21. The Floro trade is a classic example of what not to do when trading. Vesia is/was better and is 5 years younger. Also, whatever you do don't look up Kyle Hurt's stats this year in AA.
  22. Floro isn't worse than Brazoban but he's also the one guy that doesn't have a threatening fastball. When everyone else throws 100 or close to it and they bring him in throwing 92-94, the other team must be licking their chops. Plus he's old.
  23. LOL at us walking too much, as if that is a bad thing. We are 29th out of 30 in walks.
  24. We have Nance, Rogers, and (sigh) Cueto rehabbing. Gonna be a logjam of pitchers to juggle.
