  1. If Soler is in the HR Derby, he should have Cueto pitch to him. Would place a big bet on him then.
  2. Update from Jacksonville: Johnny Cueto is still hot garbage. 5 runs given up in the top of the 1st. Stay away.
  3. Marlins are a -150 favorite to make the playoffs at your local Vegas sportsbook going in to today. IIRC, they were +550 before the season started.
  4. good game.
  5. A lot of baseball players drop off a cliff in their performance. Age curves show that cliff is usually around 33 or 34 years of age. In addition, they peak at 27-28-29 and then slowly decline. Very few players are more productive after 35 than 30 as well as after 30 versus before 30 years of age. Therefore, optimal strategy is to never sign anyone over the age of 30 unless you are willing to accept less than optimal results, i.e. they are still productive enough to find value if their cost and contract length are low enough. My personal opinion is I would get rid of every player after they turn 30, or at worst let them finish out their contract to 31 or 32. Almost every free agent signing had negative value since the contract lengths are long and the prices are based on their recent, not future, production. Investing in international youth signings, optimizing draft signing and scouting, and making advantageous trades are why the teams who are consistently good are consistently good. Are there exceptions? Absolutely. But the vast majority turn out exactly as they should and are predictable with a good degree of accuracy if one is adhering to predictive analytical thinking.
  6. checking in before work. Wish Amaya was playing again. Go Fish!
  7. Jacob Amaya getting the call. Good luck.
  8. Shaky ninth. Win! Props to Davis and Sanchez with the gloves.
  9. Nice outing by Eury. Good to see him go 6. Right place for Floro. He's not a hig leverage closer guy but a serviceable reliever. You don't lose too many games when you walk 7 times. Atypical of Castillo, but these are the kinds of games the Marlins need to win. Cobble together a couple runs (two by wild pitch set up by walks) and sprinkle in some Soler power.
  10. Love our starting pitching but still can't help but wonder sometimes what a 1-2-3 of Sandy, Zac Gallen, and Luis Castillo would look like. We acdually traded Castillo away twice.
  11. Joey Bart Ivan Herrera Mitch Garver Will Banfield Those are your options. Bart's trade value is at an all-time low, worth a roll of the dice, Peyton Burdick, Josh Simpson and Cherif Neymour should do it (if they want Jerar or Brazoban have at it). Herrera will cost us a decent prospect, do you hear me Jacob Barry. Garver can probably be had for someone like a Morrisette or McCants.
  12. If i told you it was "Maldonado Time" and he is actually good would you believe me?
  13. Brazoban, Yan, and Quezada can take turns drilling the opposing team's mascot in Jacksonville. I would hate to be a batter stepping in against those three. Told you Brazoban was not gonna last. His hot start was a complete fluke.
  14. non-throwing shoulder is good news, much better than potential TJ. Like the idea of Eury as a super reliever. Think it would be good for his development if it came down to that.
  15. Would have preferred Detroit's Comp A pick since that's tradeable or some International Slot money.
  16. Jazz will be the starting CF when he returns. The only question is where he bats in the lineup. I'd be thrilled if they just plugged him into the 9 hold where Hampson and Davis bat. Don't see why he can't bat 7th, 8th, or 9th.
  17. Can't find what we received in return unless this is a continuation of the Jonathan Davis trade. Rizzo is 25 and hit 21 hrs in AA last year but hasn't been as good at AA this year.
  18. Typo but the definition of inure sorta applies.
  19. My vote is for Avi to inure himself again.
  20. Well Rogers up Eddy to DL. So much for the 6-man rotation it looks like.
  21. Arraez is a modern day Ichiro. My God his at bats are porn.
  22. Ages of Marlins starting pitchers (including Trevor, excluding Cueto): 27 25 25 25 25 20 That folks is called a window of opportunity.
  23. Man the A's and Royals are just so bad. I thought KC had some nice young talent but they look like an expansion team and the A's would lose to the Norfolk Tides.
  24. He did in the Dominican league. FCL is one of the toughest, if not the toughest, leagues for power. Will see if he can make the step up. He's not a huge guy though. 11 HRs in 52 games at 17 is nice. .969 OPS last year in his debut.
