One of the few games I will be able to watch on the West coast swing due to arcane MLBA blackout rules. Eury day though at Coors Field is a good one. Remember when "all-star" Cooper was hot for like a month and no one wanted to trade him last year when he had some trade value. A slow 32 year old mediocre first baseban made of glass who now has negative trade value. Don't know what I'm less excited about seeing: Hampson again in CF or the debut of future Marlins legend Jonathan Davis.

Jonathan Davis acquired for Brady Allen
only way this makes sense is if they need this Davis to play CD in AAA because they called up Mangum. Otherwise, he pretty much sucks. Brady Allen is not a guy who has shown anything indicating he'll ever contribute. Of course, maybe they thought they were getting Jonathan Davis of Korn in which case something takes a part of me to say what a great trade!

LET'S GO FISH! Near perfect game: -Future superstar pitcher gets his first of, hopefully, many. Bullpen holds on with just a bit of adversity. Young guys like Edwards, Burdick, Fortes all did their part. Kelly Saco was even interesting. Only thing that kept it from perfection was the inane announcing.

Fortes taking that base could have been big had Hampson got a hit. No way Jacob "The Cheetah" Stallings takes that base.

Fortes is not the most talented but he gives 100% every time. Would take him over sleepwalking Stallings every day.

Chargois, Nardi, Floro, and Scott are all legit options for the 9th. Weird to have that kind of flexibility.

Unfortunately, the first month and a half of this season will likely be his high water mark.

LOL no worries. No, I'd say this year and most of next. Don't think he will be fully unleashed for 2 years. He's still learning on the job obviously as well.

A lot can happen in 6 years. At that point we could trade him at his peak or he will have signed a long-term deal.

Guys with the plate discipline of Arraez, Nunez, and Edwards are what lies in the near future. Just hope some of it can rub off on Jazz.

Yeah, Nunez is someone I am really eager to see. The Pensacola squad is a sight to see, I think they've won like 17 of 18 or something ridiculous.

whoops meant to say first not third. Going by age curves, yes it's 7 to 8 years. How long do we control him?

16-27 pythag 22-21 irl. Eventually the bullpen will regress but right now it's a fun ride.

Fortes deserved that hit as his first two outs were well hit. Eury isn't going deep at all this year. He is still 7 or 8 years away from his peak years. They are going to wrap him in bubble wrap. If Arraez moves to third, X-ed on 2nd and then Amaya/Nunez at short makes for a much better infield both hitting and defensively.

Speed kills! The X factor with a gimme to second. Two guy in scoring position....and Mean Jean pops out.

Loving the small ball play today. This inning: infield single, HBP, worm burner.

Teach me some X-ed!

Thinking of the Stallings discussion, Nats locked up Keibert Ruiz for 8-yrs. Imagine they feel pretty set at that position while the best Marlins can hope for is Will Banfield becoming serviceable at the plate. Would be nice if some of these young guys would step up and lock a position in for a few years since the only position we are really set at going forward a few years is second base.

Is it X-man, x-factor, or based on his name X-ed?
-
5/18 vs Nationals - 1:10 PM
Eury day! X-cited to see the X-man in CF. He did play some games there in AAA. Trevor Williams is a former 2nd round Marlins draft pick. He got traded for a guy who immediately retired and never pitched for the Marlins (Richard Mitchell). It's a bit more complicated than that but sounds better.

If I had a nickel for every time Jacob Stallings got a hit this year, I'd have 35 cents.

Catching upgrade (Who can Fish target?)
Banfield is the only in-house answer at AA or above. He showed a few signs at the plate towards the end of last year and he's been hitting OK of late. That said, he's still a .203 hitter at AA and that's been pretty much his level as far as average. He is still just 23 so if he can put any pop and stop channeling Kyle Skipworth might be serviceable. McIntosh would be a massive defensive liability at the ML level. Love his bat but he is not close to a major league catcher. He would get absolutely killed behind the plate. He's a DH at best. Mack and Ronald Hernandez are our two best prospects but Mack hasn't shown anything as a pro and Hernandez hasn't been that great at rookie ball or lower. At AAA Austin Allen has been terrible at the plate and even worse throwing out runners. We need to look at the teams with a surplus of catching. Endy Rodriguez with the Pirates is who I'd be looking at. They like Henry Davis better so he may be expendable. He has good pop and also some versatility in the field.

5/13 Marlins have no choice but to win this game
It is constantly amazing the number of low IQ baseball plays we make. Guys has walked three in the inning and Gurriel has the awareness of a squirrel giving him a strike. Just cannot do that in that situation.

Fortes would have been a better choice there. I don't want Stallings hitting in an important situation right now at any level above T-Ball.

He's never pitched to Fortes? How do we know it won't work if we've never tried it?
