The Official Super Bowl XXXVII Thread
Rune, I'm not sure what you're saying here. I know you think that Gannon is better than Marino was but they've both been to the same number of Super Bowls and as of this moment, they've each won the same number. Even if the Raiders win, Gannon's four great years with one Super Bowl win doesn't surpass what Marino did. And I'm not even a Dolphin fan. I'm a Dolphin hater. But Marino is one of the best of all time and a cinch Hall of Famer, something Gannon will probably never be. Lots of QBs have won Super Bowls and many of them aren't even close to Marino or Gannon. Doug Williams lead the Redskins to a Super Bowl win. That wasn't a Dilfer situation, a decent QB who didn't screw up a great team. But Williams isn't anywhere near the QB as Marino. Mark Rypien wasn't either, nor was Joe Theisman. Winning a Super Bowl is definitely a part of measuring QB greatness but it is neither necessary nor sufficient. Winning a Super Bowl doesn't make you great and not winning one doesn't preclude you from greatness.

Logos....
I like the old Reds logo too. Some of the old logos needed to go, like the Braves and the Astros (once the Astrodome went). Even the A's logo is pretty dated. The Padre one is cute - I had always remembered it as a friar/monk striking out (pretty fitting for the old Padres) but I guess he's really hitting a home run. I don't even know what most of the logos look like anymore. I read that baseball wants to change all the batting practice jerseys, which is just a marketing ploy. Change the look so all the kids will want the to buy new ones.

Ward to LA.
You have to give something up to get something. Ward wasn't going to be free and it looks like the Dodgers gave up a decent prospect. We just traded a few good prosects to Detroit. I don't want to trade any more, especially for another left-handed hitting outfielder who isn't going to help us when we realize Hollandsworth can't hit lefties.

- Hernandez signs with Braves...
Roberto hernandez signed with the braves that was a nice pick up and now smoltz can go back to being a starter while hernadez is the closer! You should actually read some of the articles you post. Here's a quote from the article ... With John Smoltz entrenched in the closer's role, Hernandez will likely be used as a setup man for the Braves. "That's what we see him as," Schuerholz said. "But that decision is up to [manager]Bobby [Cox]. Our scouts really like [Roberto]. We believe we have a real power arm to set John Smoltz up." Roberto Hernandez can no longer be trusted to be a closer, and certainly not with a contending team. He's a good pick up for a team that lost a lot of bullpen talent this off-season but they shouldn't let him anywhere near the closer role.- Lieber signs with Yanks
Lieber probably isn't pitching this year as he rehabs from elbow surgery. This is something only a few teams can afford to do - spend a few million dollars on a guy that may help in 2004. I guess the Yankees have decided to ignore the luxury tax after all.- Marlins sign Pudge Rodriguez!
I like the part of the quote by Loria that says this "completes what we believe is a very successful offseason." That sounds like they won't be making other trades to fund this one. I'd have rather spent the money on a Brian Giles but I'm not going to argue with this one. This is a risky move but it should appeal to the casual baseball fan, which we needed to do from a PR point of view. If Pudge comes back to his old level, it would really solidify the line up and take a lot of pressure off Lowell and Lee.- Nfl
- Who's the NFL MVP
Vick hasn't done well in the passing game yet when he does that look out. Vick has a passer rating of 84.9. He's thrown 11 TDs but only 4 ints. He's completed 56.7% of his passes. He's ranked fifth in the NFC in passing. I'd say Vick is doing just fine in the passing game.- Who's the NFL MVP
After this season Gannon is a better QB than marino and the big diffrence is Gannon can win. Yes I know the Young Marino and he showed how great he was by getting back or close so many times. He slowed down as he got older but at 36 or 37 Gannon most likely will lead his team to the SB. Gannon is the better Qb period. But he didn't do it out of pure skill he did it over hard work How can you say Gannon is better than Marino based on something Gannon hasn't done yet (lead his team to the Super Bowl)? I don't agree with that at all. Gannon is having as good a year as Marino ever had. He's having as good a season as anybody has ever had. But his career doesn't stack up to Marino's. Gannon will be hard pressed to make the Hall of Fame. He got good at too old an age - he was 34 before he started doing anything. I voted for Gannon for MVP but would change it to Holmes if the Chiefs make the playoffs. How come Vick was left off this list?- Simpsons Quote Thread
Here's a few that I remember: Homer: "Okay, brain. You don't like me, and I don't like you, but let's get through this thing and then I can continue killing you with beer." In a flashback episode to when Bart is born, Homer's trying to figure if Bart would be a good name by making sure it can't be rhymed with anything that can be used to tease the boy: "Bart, Cart, Dart, Eart... Nope, can't see any problem with that!" Same episode, Homer: "As long as he's got eight fingers and eight toes..." And in honor of our Football Picking pool, Lisa Simpson (explaining her method for picking winners in NFL games): "Well, I like the 49ers because they're pure of heart, Seattle because they've got something to prove, and the Raiders because they cheat."
